How long until we have Satellite speed enforcement?

They are experimenting with it in the U.K.

I was just thinking about this last night when I was looking at the speed function on my GPS. I'd be very surprised if something to this extent doesn't happen in the next 10 years or so.

I guess my question is...what if someone's borrowing my car? That's the same issue cities are having with the redlight cameras.

If you allow someone to borrow your car your assuming the responsibility of what they might do with it.

I don't agree with that at all. If someone borrows my car and they kill someone without my prior knowledge, I'm not an accessory to murder.

The man won the case on the grounds that the rental car agency can't collect fines for a customer breaking a traffic law in a rented vehicle. And just to clarify, their system (rental car agency) was setup to record if the customer traveled over 79mph for a period longer than 2 minutes, and each time they did so, the fine increased.

I can't find the original article, but this is the gist of it: http://news.cnet.com/State-puts-brak..._3-269388.html

This story is along the same lines as satellite speed detection. People are receiving tickets in the mail for speeding on the truways. They are calculated the time that you go thru the first toll booth, the distance to when you get off the thruway, and the time it took you to go that distance.

That's actually not true unless you can provide new evidence. That started as a rumor b/c people using EZ Pass were being issued warning letters, not citations, telling them to slow down when going through tolls. People misinterpreted that to believe their average speed between tolls was exceeding the speed limit.

Camera systems based on average speed have been used in other countries, but not the US so far. The way to beat the cameras was actually pretty simple...change lanes.
