From what I've heard Limerick can be tough. I would only do it lightly with a coat or two of Nightshades or primer/water. Don't get nuts and murder them out.
I'm sure it also depends on the car and paint. What do you drive. Some cars with tinted tails look more subtle than others.

If it is the one in your avatar I'd say you pretty much have a "pull me over car to begin with". I would just do it. I doubt that will be the reason you might be pulled over anyways. If it worries you get a spare set. That way if you catch any flack for them you can switch them out, take care of the psuedo ticket(usually just a fix it and show the cop type deal) then pop em back in the following week and repeat.
I honestly don't think that you have anything to worry about though. Just make sure that the light still makes it through pretty well.

I had tinted tails on my old car, and I have tinted tails on my current car.

My Mazda's tails were tinted pretty effin' dark. But I never had any problems -- however, for a significant amount of the time I owned that car, I lived in the Philly area. And you're a lot less prone to be bothered for such things in the Philly area.

My Infiniti's tails are tinted moderately, because I didn't want to risk drawing any undesirable attention since I now live in a considerably more rural area. So far, I haven't had any issues -- BUT, like I said, I also don't have that 'asking for trouble' look.

I have the lights on my talon tinted. I think its like 3 coats of niteshades and then wet sanded for a dull look. Plus my entire cars murdered out so they look dark even during the day. Never been bothered.

I used to live up there cops won't really care but I wouldn't go that dark b/c some shops will actually fail you on inspection if your tails are too dark. I tinted my 3rd brake light once and was warned about it, so if you have a spare set of tails go for it just swap them out for inspection. Personally I think it looks stupid unless its a black car and you're going for that murdered out look

vht niteshades spray works well. make sure to sand and polish though. if you have a problem with the light output, then just get brighter bulbs!

It is an Inspection item. Have to be able to see them for so many feet. Some shops dont bother you about them if they are not to dark. Brighter bulbs are the answer. But the cops may still stop you!!

Mine are tinted dark on the GTO and I don't get pulled over for it. I also have catless, 35% windows too. I think the type of car I drive helps alot too. Less steriotype of the younger import crowd doing dumb ****.
