Local cop

I couldnt find anything about this so sorry if someone posted something like it already.

Theres a cop in my area that everyone looks out for. He just hands out tickets for anything. Everynight he goes to the dunkin donuts next to where I work. Before closing I move my car around the block from our driveway to the front parking lot. I came around the turn alittle loud and the cop was sitting there in his car eating. So I eased up and started driving all quiet. I entered the lot and backed up into a spot. I tend to rev alittle bit because im not 100% used to this new clutch. As im reving hes right behind me, and I didnt even notice him. He then parks his car infront of mine, and when I get out he yells at me to come over. This is my first time, and I just did a swap, so im scared ****less. I was completely polite, he talked some **** then, he ran my license only to find out that it was perfect, and then says that if he ever sees it again with the same "muffler" then I get a ticket. He says that all types of exhaust modifications are illegal, and that I need to change it. Now, I completely understand, but this guy has a big background in Elmont LI.

Story 1: My friend has a civic with an exhaust. Nothing serious, just a greddy cat-back. Same cop pulled him over. When they were talking, the cop pretty much told him to shut up and if he keeps talking he will find something else to give him a ticket for.

Story 2: Cop pulls over a lady in a santa-fe. This was right behind where I work, so I watched it unfold. Hes yelling at her about tinted windows, and then gives her a ticket. Now, my mom has a santa-fe, and they come stock with the same tinted windows. So he gave this lady a ticket for having stock tinted windows? WTF

He pretty much singles everyone out, and tries to ticket them, especially the locals who have "modified mufflers". Everyone knows him as the bald cop guy, and everyone has run into him at some point. I work at a variety store, and all the cops recognize me cause they work at the precinct down the street, and all are friendly/nice except him. He tends to act like hes on some really high horse. My questions are:

1) If enough people complain, can we get him in any type trouble?

2) Can he ticket my car if its parked in a driveway?

3) How should locals deal with a cop like this, especially one that likes to single out tuners?

Once again, sorry if something like this popped up before.

your not going to get him in trouble unless he does something wrong

exhaust modifications are illegal, stopping and ticketing for someone isn't wrong

tint is illegal, stopping someone and ticketing them for it isn't wrong

if two cars drive by and one is stock and one is modified illegally stopping the "tuner" car isn't singleing anyone out there's just something wrong with the car he stops, that's not wrong

should he conduct himself in a proffesional manner definitely but giving someone a hard time hardly counts as unproffessional

I'm always polite when I make contact with someone but that's not to say your going to talk over me and dominate the situation, people want to hold court on the side of the road and I have raised my voice to control a situation not being ignorant or mean just making my point. After some I have heard people overstate what was said, people get angry and want to direct the blame to someone else.

I'm not saying cops can't be knuckleheads but if that's the case then it's up to you to be a bigger person and just carry on

Thanks, I completely understand what your saying. I guess we have to just roll with the punches.

BTW when I said tint I think the proper term might have been tempered glass? Pretty much they come from the dealer with the glass darkened slightly but not over the legal limit. He gave her the ticket for that.

So, he would be able to ticket the car if it was in a driveway?

Also:

-Would they impound the car if they found enough illegal stuff? Like my test pipe, lack of emissions equipment, or engine swap?
-If they cant get the car on a lift or tow it because its too low that it cant do either, would they still impound it, or just force it somehow.

If the car comes from the factory with darkened glass or tint already applied then it is legal. Any alteration from factory is illegal and therefore you can be ticketed.

factory tint is legal

can he ticket a car parked in a driveway for what? tint, no

cars that are not safe for road use can be towed, or if the engine in the car comes back as stolen they can impound the car until you show proof of purchase

no car is to low to get on a lift ever heard of 2x4s

Alright, so in general they can't ticket cars in driveways? If so, I think ill leave the car in rhe driveway from now on.

They're gonna need a lot of 2x4s if they want to take it, lol.

Thanks a lot guys, I guess im overreacting a bit.
