Any of you boys do repairs.... for money?
She can't keep it on the road because "she broke it". I have no idea whats wrong with it yet, nor have I seen it. Anybody wanna diagnose it from that? You can fix it too for a little dough :D . |

lost my subie into a curb. lower control arm. control arm mount. sway bar endlink, wheel bearing. i did all the above myself aside from the bearing because i have no press. Id love to help out as long as its not to far away. you should talk to the nissan guys on the boards. they know these cars from top to bottom

Well I pulled the wheel off today. Everything looks pretty straight. It was shimmying like mad with the wheel on. I pulled it off and put the donut on. It still has a bit of a shimmy but not nearly as bad. A new wheel should hopefully make it drivable. I can't believe she hit hard enough to bend the wheel but didn't blow the tire. Any ideas where the shimmying is still coming from?

well i fixed all of my parts except for the wheel bearing. Right after i did all the other sh|t, i took it for a drive and got some bad shimmying. In your or her case, it might not be as bad because i hit the curb hard.
It could also be a control arm, tie rod....anything bent down there will cause vibration

i couldnt feel it with my car. It was harder to spin it since mines AWD tho so maybe you could. I just replaced that parts that looked f'd up. Luckily the things that were damaged showed CLEAR signs of being damaged.

its the worst now at at 10 mph. The steering wheel wobbles left to right almost an inch. It will fade in the steering wheel with higher speeds but you can still feel it in the seat. The braking doesn't seem to be the culprit.

yeah my bad wheel bearing was bad at 15mph then faded at higher speeds.

You can rule out "hard parts" like control arms, tie rods...stuff like that. You need to concentrate on the rotational parts: spindle, wheel bearing, rotor, stuff that actually spins while the car is in motion.
Something is bent. The vibration gets less noticable because the "wavelength" gets less as the car speeds up. It winds up vibrating so fast that you can't discern it in the steering wheel, but will still feel it in the seat.

Shoot me an offer. I've been shoving through salvage yard mud all morning. I hate it. I still can't find a wheel. I want to get four balanced wheels on it and see how bad it is. I poked around for a few spindles but didn't come up with anything. It seems pretty valid though. |
