All school districts should follow suit.

http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/tony...t_failing.html

This is great. In a small, quaint, over funded, under performing school district in Rhode Island the school board finally took the Education cartel to task for the abysmal performance of their schools. The school board tried to implement some new policies in hopes to better the education provided.

But of course the Union demanded more from taxpayers instead of providing more for the children. Well last night the school board fired every teacher in the district and plans to start new.

:APPLAUSE:

And for the record, I come from a family of teachers and I have nothing against them, I just believe a teacher should be payed on performance, not the status quo. But you are correct, I'm not fond of public worker unions.

That's awesome. Seriously. I wish that same sort of policy could apply to a few other organizations out there.

Heard about this. And frankly, I applause the decision of the school board. But, the teachers should not be the only ones held accountable. The parents of a lot of these kids are also to blame.

I've worked in a local mall around here, dealt not only with the kids who shopped there, but the parents as well. And honestly, there were days I couldn't tell the difference between the two in terms of acting childish.

There isn't really. The education system in this area is awful. If I am ready to have kids, I will be damn picky about where they attend, that is certain.

And, we also have a DIGUSTING amount of people on unemployment. Thankfully, my stint there only lasted a couple of months.

Yea, me too. Like the insurance and automotive industries. And certain professional athletes.

I'm glad this happened. Unions used to be about fair treatment for their empoyees, now it is about greed.

This is great. I was watching on the news, and they made every teacher stand up one by one. Then they fired everyone standing or somthing.

Not that its all the teachers faults, but still, there has to be accountability, and the union finally ate it on this one.

Every school should definitely do this. IF your job is to teach 9th grade science, then every kid in your class should know 9th grade science by the end of the semester. What other job is there that you can actually fail at and still collect 72k per year?

Even though I totally agree with firing non-effective teachers, but why is the school board keeping their jobs, afterall they did oversee the schools failures and this isn't something that happened overnight.

True but like already mentioned it's almost impossible to fire a teacher these days because of the unions.

Some teachers are there only to collect a pay check and it is sad because the kids get screwed. We got rid of some teachers last year due to consolidation and enrollment drops, the young teachers that were energetic and actually wanted to make a difference were the ones that were cut because of their years of service.

I have had a few ****ty teachers in high school and at the technical school I attended. I wasent and still am not thrilled about my schooling experience as a whole, especially the part I paid for out of my own pocket.

Now if we could just close the Department of Education and get this back in the control of the citizens....
