Body image and the media

It seems like everytime I turn on the TV someone is talking about body image. Typically it involves overweight people going on about how unhappy they are with their life and the way they look. Then there's some "expert" who goes on and on about how they should just accept themselves and be happy. I think this is absolute bull$hit. What happened to working hard for what you want? It's not ok to be lazy, plain and simple. It's not ok to accept mediocrity. I can't stand when someone complains about something but can't motivate themselves to change it. I know several people that fit into this category, family members actually and it drives me nuts. If you want to get in shape, stop eating $hit, get your a$$ up off the couch and go the f'in gym. No, you can't just buy a pill. And no, that stupid ball that you saw on tv won't make you lose your gut. If you're not willing to put in the work then you don't want it bad enough, plain and simple. If that's the case, I don't care to hear you complain about it!

lol, no of course not. If someone is genuinely happy being big, then that's great. But the majority of "fat" people don't want to be fat. I don't agree with this huge push in the media lately about it being ok. It gives an impression that you should just accept being fat rather then do something about it. Then you have these "experts" saying that society is to blame. It's allot easier to pass the buck and blame other people then to take responsibility for that Pizza that you ate before bed last night.

I dont think its wrong to be lazy either. I mean, as a part of the media you are describing, they have convinced society that, if you are not fully engaged in something from the moment you wake up, to the moment you pass out, you are worthless and suck. **** that. i think society need to back the hell out of everyones ****. If someone wants to actually have more leisure time than someone else, than so be it damn it. Who cares if someone would rather chill out for 2 more hours than go out and work.

As for the body type ****, thats just garbage. God damn society also is just trying to sell more and more ****. They just know that the media has beaten and abused people that are "fat" so they use it to their advantage. Its disgusting how the media exploits people who are overweight, or depressed, or have acne, all that bull ****.

I agree with you on some of this. Where I do not pertains to overweight people being exploited. Someone who has acne, or are depressed really have no control over it. Someone who is fat (in 99% of scenarios) have noone to blame but themselves. It's also something that can be absolutely remedied if they chose to do so. Did you know that there are laws in the workplace to protect every category of people but overweight ones? You cannot be discriminated against for your race, sex, sexual orientation, handicap etc. But there's nothing that pertains to weight. And do you know why? Because your weight is something that you have control of. And another thing, I tired of men being badmouthed because they're attracted to thin/in shape women. My sister in law b#$ches about it constantly. Unfortunately, she falls into the category of being miserable about how she looks, but too lazy to change it. So...it's easier to complain

I kinda disagree when you say it's always their own fault, alot has to do with upbringing and family ways if you don't know any better it's how your gonna go about life.

I was raised this way. We always ate a lot and i had an abusive father that made me eat everything on the plate and he chose the portions. If i didnt, it was there for me to eat the following morning. if i didnt eat it then, i ate it for lunch, you get the trend. This happened through most of my early childhood into teenage years. I finally realized that being a part of the clean plate society is not a big deal. But, because of this "abuse" (i believe at least) ive developed an issue where i never actually feel full unless i really eat an obscene amount of food. Ive worked on this issue though, and lost plenty of weight but i did that to stop health issues, more so how i look.

I couldnt imagine myself being as skinny as some dudes i know, nor do i really have any intention of becoming that. Being a big dude fits me. I work out, im active, and very healthy according to my doctor. Im 5 foot 6 and 200 lbs. im not small, but not huge either.

True, and humans develop all of their fat cells by the age of 12ish so upbringing plays a huge roll. However, once your old enough to realize that your unhealthy, and you have the desire to become healthy, there's no excuse not to. Most would just rather take the easy route.

AGREE with sinner. if your overweight and complaining about it, assuming u have no real medical issues relating, get off ur ass and work out. eat less. take a walk around the block. Its very very simple to lose weight (i understand harder for some then others due to genes and such), the combination of diet + exercise.

That's a different situation which is why I said most cases. However, a medical condition is also very easily used as an excuse. My mom has Lupas. She is extremely inactive but it has nothing to do with her condition. She's put on some weight and obviously wants to take it off. She buys into every stupid latenight exercise fad that comes on TV. I mean, she has them all. She just bought a juicer and thinks this is the answer. I've tried to take her to the gym with me on numerous occasions, even offered to do a meal plan for her. She just goes off about how I don't understand, and that she's got a disease blah blah blah. It's BS. She would rather play the victim. She won't put in the work.

Depending on what kind of Lupus your mother has, I'd say she has a pretty valid excuse

The same situation pops up all over the place. In general it seems that people expect much more from their life than they put into it. I do believe that all the glamorous garbage we see/hear about leads to us thinking that simple solutions do exist but I also firmly believe that if you truly want something you will only fail at taking the simple way out so many times before you realize that you have to work for it. I really don't care if someone who didn't put out the effort bitches about not getting what they wanted or how horrible it is for them because all it means is less competition for those who are truly willing to work for what they want.

If my mom can walk (which she can, and she has no problem walking up and down the mall when there's a sale) then she can exercise. I'm not talking about having her do hacksquats, but she she can exercise. She's got no excuse besides laziness. I'm not being a jerk, I mean this is my mom I'm talking about. I'm being 100% honest.
