Anyone know the dental world...

Well. Long story short. I knew my teeth were getting bad, and ive been desperately trying to get medical insurance the last year or so. But, i finally gave in, and went to the docs office.

All in all, I need about 10k worth of work. Im tired of feeling ****ty, and somedays I sometimes feel down right miserable because of my teeth. Its a genetic thing, which sucks, cause theres nothing I could do about it. I dont eat sweets, only drink water. Ughh.

So basically, anyone have any ideas? Cause i started paying for insurance, but I need to wait 6 months to have anything done besides xrays.

Did you goto your local county assistance office and talk to them? it would be the same place that provides welfare. They might be able to direct you or even help you with emergency dental.

Have you tried going to UPENN or Temple Univ Dental schools. They might be able to do the same work for much less money. They have dental students work on patients under the supervision of dr's. For allowing that to happen, they charge a lot less.

A guy I used to work with used Temple's school(iirc, some school) for anything dental. He swore by it and even used it over the dental insurance provided in his package.

but in all seriousness, wait the 6months and get the work done. tooth care is all about prevention. brush, floss, rinse unless it causes you pain.

pretty sure you posted about this previously, or at least posted in a thread regarding cheap dental work that a member here was offering through a dental school. i'd try to look that thread up again since it had a lot of good info, and look into contacting some dental schools to see what your options are. explain your situation to them and hopefully they will be able to work something reasonable out with you.
sorry to hear things went as far and got as expensive as they have but you're making the right move by taking care of it. just bang it out so your health and your comfort and your wallet don't have to summer any more.

If all else fails and you have for example cavities, you can fill those cavities yourself temporarily. Walgreens has this paste for this purpose. I know it works, it should last you the 6 months but I wouldn't take my word for it. Also, flossing is a must.

i was in the same boat as you. I had really bad teeth(crooked). It was genetic, since i ended up with the same jaw line as my dad which is too narrow. Luckly i took care of them and didn't need anything cosmetic. I ended up getting braces last november and the change is amazing. It cost me 6k out of pocket for my braces and my wisdom teeth were just pulled out a couple weeks ago, but that was covered through my insurance. Dental insurance is finicky for situations like mine. My dental plan basically covers basic cleaning sessions and fillings and such, but thats it.

Honestly, this is the reason i'm not driving a evo or sti today. I chose my teeth over a new car and i couldn't be happier with my results so far. It does wonders for your confidence. People who were blessed with great teeth don't understand how self concious i was about it and couldn't believe i got braces at the age of 23. In the long run this is a way better investment than say...dumping money into a car that i would have never gotten back....like my dsm haha

Even if you have good dental insurance you're still going to pay a boat load. What plan do you currently have? I haven't heard of a reputable insurance company forcing you to wait 6 months. I've been in the medical/dental insurance world for a long time and have dealt with many companies. I'd look into other options. You can get a stand alone medical/dental plan on your own for about 150/mo that will cover you right away. PM me if you need more info.

I floss everyday, and mouthwash after every meal.
