DSM died while driving, wont start now

I was driving about 50mph the other day and all of the sudden i could not accelerate. Not like what happens when you blow an intercooler hose but just pressing the pedal did absolutely nothing. I coasted to a stop and tried to restart the car in it would crank but not turn over. NOw it does not even crank. My friend tapped the starter while i tried to turn it over and it sounded like the it was going to crank again but still nothing.

The day before this happened i installed a Walbro 255

I picked up a new starter i havent installed it yet but i just want to see if anyone has an idea of what this could be and why it just cut off on me.

thanks in advance

Ok once you get it cranking check for spark and check for fuel....

Cehck list for ya

How old is the battery
Will the battery pass a load test (a battery at 12V dosent always mean its a good battery if it cant pass a load test get a new one) These are also a pain in the neck because its hard to tell everything still works fine when the key is in the on posistion but it wont crank when you try to.

Me being the impulsive idiot i am a few years ago automaticley blamed the starter for my problem in my 87 Fiero for it not starting, I replaced it and it worked for about 2 weeks and started with the same problem turns out the battery couldewnt handel a load.

If you just installed the fuel pump i'd start there. Make sure all the connections are tight to the pump. If the hose that goes from the pump to the fuel rail isn't tight, or you didn't install the rubber grommet/spacer properly it won't seal properly and you wont get any fuel to the rail.

Here's a good guide for the install in a 2g fwd

Im also going to say the fuel pump wiring may be at fault here.

Another thing to check is your tune, did you compinsate for the bigger fuel pump? If not you were probably running very rich and may have fouled your spark plugs.

I've had an exposed wire grounding out the fuel pump and blowing the fuse every time i tried to turn the engine over. That was a pain to diagnose. So you should probably check the fuse controlling the fuel pump up in the engine bay. It wouldn't be a bad idea to rewire the pump to maintain better voltage, and in turn, higher flow from the pump if you haven't already. It costs under 20 bux in parts and you can do it in about 45 minutes.

Here's a guide to do that

http://www.raktron.com/fuel/rewire1.html

If you aren't familiar with it you need to get acquainted with www.vfaq.com. They have a lot of good info for newer dsm guys.

theres a clutch safety switch at the top of the clutch pedal assembly. see if that broke or came loose. it will cause the car not to crank at all. happened to me and only found it after replacing the starter, etc.

if u unplug that switch the car will start - we unplug them so u dont gotta push the clutch in.

also for remote starters people do this - works this way on s chassis and DSMs

VW u gotta put a jumper in the connector.

Update:

I replaced the starter and the car cranks now but still won't turn over. All the connections for the fuel pump are good. I am getting fuel but no spark. I checked power everywhere and determined I am getting power to the coil packs and that's where it ends. Nothing to the plugs and wires.

Are my coils bad?

thats a different thing chiefton. notice i didnt say to unplug anything. this is literally on the clutch pedal assembly, as i said before, and its just a little rubber grommet looking thing that took me two days to find. try again.

I relpaced the coil packs. Big waste of 200$ because I still have no spark. There is power in the wires going into the coil packs but no power coming out. What is the problem here??? Is there a relay that might have gone bad ?

You need to check your cam and crank sensor, If one of those sensors is not properly sending a pulse signal to ECU. The coils will not fire.

I understand you say you have fuel pressure, but do you know if your injectors are firing?

You might want to check compression and make sure your timing is dead on. The timing belt may have went by by.

If you have power to the coils, but are not getting spark, you have a problem with the crank sensor more than likely.
