What could this be?

I was cruising down rt 42 driving normal and I hear a bang. Then it sounded like something flew off my car or something so I pulled over and everything seemed ok. My volts dropped down and stayed at 11.7. My radio also turned off and wont go back on and my seatbelt is automatic and just wont work now. I havent drove the car since it happend a couple days ago but I made it all the way home and the volts just stayed at 11.7. I started my car today and I can usually hear the fuel pump really loud and today it wasnt loud at all i could barely hear it. The car was running ok but I didnt drive it anywhere bc I wanna know what is wrong with it? Any help???

My assumption, your fuel pump fell out, leaving an open circuit, letting the voltage drain out all over the road.

No but seriously, thats weird. I have no idea, sorry.

Is your alt belt still there??? I wouldnt drive it if the voltage is staying at 11.7. The low voltage is the issue with the fuel pump and radio. Check your alt belt and crank pulley.

I did a test on the alt and I think its bad. But why wont my radio go on and why wont the seatbelt work? would that be bc there isnt enough volts to run everything?

The belt still there? Like SpendOne said, if it broke, it would explain almost all of this. The system is irrellivent if it's non-existent, so cross that off.

Check the fuses for the seat belts and radio. Unlikely, but maybe something shorted out and popped just those two? Or possibly theres not enough power to run those specific things so they just wont turn on.

Yeah, there's not enough power to run it all.

Have the alt checked, if it's good swap in a new battery, etc etc etc.

i would say check all your fuses, the alt could have possibly spiked and what you could have heard was relays or fuses popping, its happend to be before on my old camaro, hopefully this helps

Also, is your battery tied down? If not battery may have jumped up, hit the hood grounded out and popped the ALT fuse. Like everyone else said check out the fuses, Check voltage at the alternator, should get around 13.5 volts engine running.
