official cell phone reviews and questions thread

well, since we're getting more and more cool phones out... and the prices are getting cheaper and cheaper, thus allowing just about everyone to be able to make a decision on a smart phone... i figured we should have a good place to talk about what we're using and how we're using it.

I'm also really bored...

I'll just quote my minor review of the G1

Quote:
ok ok ok... i've owned the g1 for about... 2 hours now... i'm hardly getting work done. i can't put this phone down. Now, this is my first "smart phone" i've upgraded from the samsung trace, which is an ultra thin phone and i loved it for what it was... a rather simple phone with the bare necessities...

now... the G1 so far has been pretty stellar! The free marketplace is what is going to make this phone superb though, but don't look for too much just yet. the coolest app i found was one that uses the camera to scan a barcode, then search online for the product and let you know where it can be bought and at what prices.

So far I've found the browsing to be just fine. nice and responsive. I want to buy a 16gb sd card for it, but that is $75... it comes with a 1gb, and since i've never used all of the 512 in my trace, i'm not to concerned. The one thing i'm not to fond of, is the lack of virtual keyboard. but considering the OS is open source, and the marketplace will offer free apps... it is only a matter of time before that is rectified, right now you need two hands to use the phone.... and for me that makes it a little difficult to do anything while using the phone.

either way, i know i said i'd wait... but after playing with one i couldn't put it down. I'm really excited to see what the future holds for this phone
please keep rumors out. i'm looking for cold hard facts from people that use and live with a phone... no, "well, i used my buddies iPhone for 5 minutes, never touched a G1, but the iPhone is so much better"

phones are getting more and more advanced and are really taking a hold on our day to day life and changing how we interact with the internet, email, etc.

For those able to get complete internet access on their phone, what is missing? what don't you like about it? what could be made better? Do you shop online, on your phone?

my girlfriend and I just upgraded our phones. She got the dare and I got the blackberry curve. The lock feature on the dare doesn't work very well and always seems to unlock itself. The touch screen is far less superior to the iphone and selects items instead of just scrolling down. The internet doesn't have the mouse feature and when you flip the phone sideways the screen a lot of the times doesn't switch itself. That's pretty much what she doesn't like about it. She is actually thinking about getting the curve or waiting for the blackberry storm to come out.

I like the Sidekick LX or as Kevin calls them, the Slutkick. Plus my service is really, really cheap. $65 a month for 300 anytime, unlimited calls to 5 people, unlimited texts, IMs, e-mail, web, pic messaging.. yadda yadda. Keyboard takes getting used to if you've never had a Sidekick but I can probably type faster on a Sidekick that most people can on a computer. And that's good for me because I hate phones that lag when you type.. or phones that are hard to type on. Lol. JM2C.

Really? I played with the Dare at a local VZW store, and thought the keyboard was awesome.

As for the storm, I really hate the 2 letters per button layout, its annoying to me.

I have the Lg Dare and i love it. Features 3.2 mp camera, t9 text input or full keyboard when turned sideways. You can easily miss a key everynow in then if you have man hands lol.250mb of internal memory and can support an 8gb micro sd card.If you like watching videos off of youtube or just the abilties to go your favorite site almost anywhere then it will do just that. The battery life depends on the setting you have in the phone, to maximize the charge life ahve the screen dim out after 7 sec and turn all the vibrate features off.The dare handles up to 1000 contacts and while browsing the internet you can still listen to your music at the same time. You can also text and listen to music at the same without interuption.

For the person with the the having issues go to setting@tools-phone info-sw/hw version and it will tell you what version software you have .More than likely you have version and the latest version is actually 5 which any corporate store can put on the phone in under 10 minutes.

The lg venus is no where near being anything like the voyager unfortunately geared toward teenagers and adults who wanted a touch screen but without the price.

The Moto krave is nice looking and has great audio playback, the issue that i've found with it is there is no erase all feature to erase your call history, so you have to erase each call one by one.Hopefully there will be a software upgrade to fix it.

i hate every lg phone it seems they never put enough design into any of there phones they just design good looking phones to make money. the lg dare i cant stand the full keyboard is to small and has a horrible touch screen in general. i have an iphone and use to have a side kick and i love both of them the iphone is designed so well and has so much to offer and the sidekick is a great phone i just dont get good tmobile service in my area.

No....verizon doesn't believe in wi-fi and it pisses me off because I don't have service in my house. But when I had my curve with t-mobile it had wi-fi so I had perfect service.

Then that is the only downside to verizon right there. By not having WiFi, they are more in control. Damn bastards! Picking a phone your gonna be stuck with for the next two year sucks! lol

Verizon only does not have wifi on standard phones, most, if not all, of their smartphones have wifi on it

Buddy of mine has one, and loves it. I had the chance to mess around with it, and I was actually pretty impressed with it.

And, once I get a new phone, ill add a mini review to this (my phone now isnt that special, its only a "V")

I'm looking into getting a new phone as well, but out here in bumble-**** kutztown, the boyfriend and I don't get any service. I have to stand with my face against the window to get 1 bar, possibly 2 on a good day...otherwise, any verizon phone works everywhere. I looked into the DARE, Id love to get a touch phone, but not sure how I'm going to like it. Sad how you can get a blackberry for cheaper than some of their touch phones. Undecided...wish the iPhone was verizon, not sure how service is with it...anyone have an iPhone?? How is the service?
