To sell or not to sell?

Basically in a bit of a dillema. I recently slid my car into a curb and it needs a little bit of work, probbably $700-800 worth of parts and a few days of wrench turning on my part. I don't know what to do after I fix it. I only have about a year left to drive the car because I will be taking the train to Temple and it won't see many miles then except for work and fun. Still owe 7k on the car.

Basically one side of me wants to fix it and keep driving it because I am already half-way paid off and I love the car and don't really want to get rid of it. Then again, I'm already halfway through, so why quit now right?

Other side of me wants to sell the car, get something cheaper and use the difference to pay off the loan and just have a car to drive. I don't like being broke at the end of every month, but the time behind the wheel is totally worth it.

I'll make the decision on my own, but what would you do in my shoes, keep the miata, follow through and have a nice car in the end, or take the loss, sell it and get something basic to drive around in?

Just fix it and drive it. Thats what I would do anyways.


So you would sell it with the damage? Do you think you can sell the car and make enough back to pay off the loan?

Ya either way arnt you going to have to shell out the money to fix it before the sell anyway?

I say fix it, make it better, get to keep your miles low!! and its a ton more enjoyable when you do get to drive your car...

Im away at school for most of the time and only see drive time on lucky weekends, but i get to keep my miles low and build, build

Are you loosing interest in the miata, or is it a passion? That should be a main issue right there

I can't sell the car the way it is, the car is not safe to drive as it sits and the repair estimate from a shop will be about 3-4x higher than what it will really cost so that will scare away pretty much any buyer. I can make enough money back to pay off the loan, but then I would be losing a kickass car...maybe it's just the weather lately and not being able to fully enjoy the car that's making me think twice.

To me it's just a car, an awesome car but I'm not getting hung up on it, if I could afford something better I would definately get it. I consider myself a car enthusiast not a Miata enthusiast after all.

i voted to keep it. its really not that much damage. but like what was posted, it has to be something that you are really enjoying to justify keeping the car

There's the kicker. The Mazdaspeed Miata was produced in...I don't want to say small, but I will say limited, numbers. There have probbably been close to 1,000,000 Miatas sold since they first came out, only 5428 Mazdaspeeds were released in North America (and basically the same cars but not called the Mazdaspeed in Australia and Japan and I think somewhere else, came in different colors too). What I mean is the car isn't exactly rare, but the more time passes, the less and less of them there are on the market, and out of the box they were the best performing model made.

Of course I can build one to be better and faster for less money but it's not quite the same for me.

then why are you asking people on an internet forum? Do what you want with the car. Two weeks ago you had all these plans for mods..then you signed up for SCCA to race. You should keep it..unless your just out of the whole scene.

your car has less than a grand worth of damage to it, that's nothing. my car has had more money put into it to repair it than the original price of the car. you had a little whoopsie, it happens. keep your car, you enjoy it, end of story.

Don't even remind me . Car is not safe to drive, let alone race. The rear subframe is bent and I have a terrible alignment.
