RP's 90 GSX project from scratch
I purchased my 90 Eclipse GSX before I deployed beginning of 2007 bone stock and missing quite a few things. The engine had 6k rebuilt miles, tranny that was almost shot, brake system was rusting away, no injectors, no intercooler piping, etc. Basically this car was definately not drivable....only good thing was the engine was rebuilt. I got back from Iraq Dec.07 and began working on the car. When I got back she looked neglected because I was gone for so long. First thing that got replaced was alternator(of course). Then moving on to replacing stock with aftermarket parts. The process was a slow one because of my crazy work schedule and spending time with my Daughter and Wife. It is now May08 and she is almost done. After 4 1/2 busy months of getting and installing parts all that's left to do is send her off to DogBox Racing in Howell, NJ to get the tranny rebuilt and clutch installed. After that, it's tuning time!!! Ok, as of October08 I have the tranny rebuilt, 4spider diff., and custom short shifter thanks to DogBox Racing. I have also swapped out the old Denso 550cc injectors with new F.I.C. 650cc injectors, swapped out the 2g mas for a 3" GM MAS and Maf Translator ver.2, and swapped out the injen intake for a 3" ETS cold air intake. I also put in a new stage 3 chip from jeff at DSMChips.com to compensate for the injectors and GM MAS. The chip is already tuned to my specs and works amazing. There isn't much tuning left for me to do because the car runs like a dream now(fast response, amazing turbo spoolup, etc.). The only things to deal with now is the broken power steering line, extend muffler from under the car, exhaust leak, and leaking transfer case. It is now December08. I was messing around with the car the other day to see how she's running and noticed a pretty big leak coming out the radiator. I just ordered a cxracing aluminum radiator(after extensive research on them). When it gets here I'll be putting it in and fixing all the little kinks she has left. She's currently inside my friends garage since the weather is too bad to be working outside on a gravel driveway. January09, I got the new aluminum radiator put in. I also custom made a cold air intake because I didn't like the ETS intake that I had. While the car was in the garage I was able to do more on it than it sitting in my driveway. The exhaust leak is now fixed. I was able to get under the car and realized that the previous owner cut one of the power steering lines so I had to fabricate something for it(hopefully it'll work). I also wired in the clutchwire for the stutterbox. February09, After a few test and tunes I found my knock sensor and coolant temp sensor to be faulty so both have been replaced. The car starts up and idles just fine now and no CEL. When I drive the car now it will boost but there's no power at all...worse than n/a!! Back to getting down and dirty, gotta love DSMs!! March09, Well, duty calls and I'm about to leave for my third trip to Iraq so the car's gotta be put off til I get back. I already have the plans and parts for when I get back though. I'm replacing the dejon tool hi/lo dual stage mbc with a greddy profec spec b, throwing in a set of 272 cams, replacing all gauges, and some other things. I already can't wait to come back! ***Mods List*** Engine/Exhaust/Intake -Evo3 B16G turbo -Buschur FMIC(short route piping) -8.5mm Magnecore wires -DejonTool dual stage boost controller -XTD Stage 4 clutch -ported 2g exhaust manifold -Apex'I 3" turboback exhaust -Blitz blow off valve -3" GM MAS -custom cold air intake -FIC 650cc injectors -XS Power 3" tubular o2 housing w/ external dump -Aeromotive adjustable fuel pressure regulator -DSMChips.com stage 3 eprom chip -Walbro 255 fuel pump -CXRacing aluminum radiator -2g pistons on 90 rods Brakes/Suspension/Handling -94 big brakes upgrade -Metal Masters brake pads -PowerSlot rotors -front and rear strut tower braces Electronics/Interior/Exterior -Apex'I SAFC -VDO exhaust gas temp gauge -VDO boost gauge -Greddy turbo timer -MMCD datalogger -AEM UEGO -completely gutted and stripped interior -short shifter from DogBox -MAF Translator ver.2 pics coming soon!!
