****. wiper help plz

i took my 200sx out in the snow to test out my new camera mount, and what do you know, the passenger side wiper quit on me.

within about 5 wipes, it got weaker and weaker, finally just stopped moving, now it just pulses a little. the driver side wiper still works fine, like normal. im pretty sure there was a bit of smoke from the engine bay a little after it failed too. like something was rubbing maybe. i turned them off for a bit, and then drove home, trying to use them as little as possible.

anyone have any ideas?

theres an s12 and s13 at the j yard, so maybe i can go scavange parts that i need from them. but i dont know what i need.

thanks

thats really...odd. They both run on the same motor (at least s13's do). Stripped a gear or whatever is in there maybe?

it probably just stripped out the pattern...take the black little knob cover off of the end of it and tighten the nut down as tight as you can..if it gets better then you just stripped it out.

who needs a passenger wiper anyways though? Your passengers dont need to see anything.

what pattern are you talking about? like splines inside of the wiper arm? so then i would need a new wiper arm? that would be sweet if thats all it is...

its ****in snowin right now so im not really trying to figure it out..

but anyways yes, im mad tyte jdm, no im not rhd tho, and yes, i do want a passenger wiper.

but uumm, at this point, it seems to smoke if i just go ahead and use the wipers, so really i cant use them since i dont want to breath smoke

either the spline or the rivited arms under the wiper cowl busted on that side. When you get a chance pull the wiper cowl if the arm spline is fine.

Wait the motor only moves the one link which spin the right pivot, then not show is the left link and left pivot same part as the right side. So if the motor works its either a stripped pivot, or stripped arm, or just a broken pivot.

Here's what you do...

1. Get some 40lb test fishing line.

2. Tie one length of the line directly between the ends of the two wipers.

3. Tie one long length of the line from the working wiper in through the driver side window, out through the passenger side window and tie it off on the non-working wiper.

4. Watch ghetto hilarity ensue and marvel in your human achievement.

If one wiper works, both wipers work. There is only one motor, a rod pushes both back and forth.

Sherwood probably nailed it. Check to make sure the bolt on the wiper arm is tight and not stripped.

well from another forum, it appears that theres a linkage that is able to pop out... so it looks like its either the splines in the arm are stripped, or the linkage came undone

i had this happen several times with s13's i have owned...its was always the linkage arm popping off one side, so i just remove the shroud(if you havent already) and duct tape the hell out of the the linkage so it can pop off again(one time all it needed was to be bent a little and it popped back on no problem(ghetto fixs but it works and its cheaper then cheap)

well i took the arm off, and the axle does spin by itself like its supposed to. i tried putting the arm back on and just tightening it, but i think the splines are too messed up. they def look very beat up

im gonna grab the wiper from the j yard i think. do you think i need the actual axle thing that sticks out of the firewall though? (the thing that the wiper arm bolts onto?)

also i think ill take the one at the j yard apart, maybe grab the linkages and the motor just incase

but for now, i just took off the pass side wiper so it doesnt mess the splines up on the axle anymore than it already has.

if the spline is messed up a new wiper arm is useless. You need the actual gear drive "spline"

idk the wiper splines looked worse than the drive splines...

i went to the junkyard today and they ****in trashed the s12 already

i went on a scavanger hunt for a while to find one that would work, and finally ended up with one from an older saab. got home and turns out it doesnt work because the spring sticks out too far on the bottom

im just rocking the single driver side for now. sucks in the rain and snow though :/
