i have been looking for a new PDA for a little while now and stumbled across the one i wanted on CL yesterday. The price was right and the guy was semi-local. I got in contact with him (via email never via phone), asked him about any imperfections or damage; he said there was none. He said his name was John, and that he wanted to meet at KOP movie theater at 5pm (perfect, i would rather meet in an open place to avoid unwanted jumpings).

[keep in mind, we never talked VIA phone, always through email. Where he claimed his name was John]

I get to KOP movie theater and some 16-17 year old kid approaches my car. i get out, assuming its him and he says "hey, dave. Im the guy with the phone." i ask him to turn it on for me and he does, the phone turns on and i figured i was good to go. we exchange money and phone and i was on my way.

Once back at my house, i sit down at the table and pull the battery out to insert my SIM card.... the little white circle on the back of the phone was red (ie: phone has been dropped in water before). Now i am generally not the type of guy that gets pissed off easily, but i was well on my way. I inserted my SIM card anyways to see if the phone would work. While it did still turn on it wouldn't let me make or receive calls/texts.

Before smashing the waterlogged PDA against the wall i removed my SIM card and put it back in my phone and decided to take a look around the broken phone. I go through the settings than personal info and to my surprise/amazement this jackass left ALL of his personal info in the PDA (home phone, his REAL email, his REAL name (Tyler), his home address, his girlfriends address, etc)

I call the home number in the broken phone from my old (working) phone and a girl answers: I explain that i just bought a PDA from some kid and i think he lives there. She says "Tyler? he sold you that phone? it was broken when he got it, he shouldn't have done that!" she went on to explain that he was at the movies (probably with my ****ing money)

I tell her that if i don't hear back from John/Tyler by 10 p.m. i would make his life very miserable. I went on to explain that what he did was a felony and that he could go to jail for this, i explained that with him deceived me deliberately through the internet it was a "cybercrime" and that the government is taking these type of crimes VERY SRSLY. (i made all of this paragraph up as i went, i have NO idea why or if its illegal, but i figured if i put some fear in him i would have a better chance of getting my money back).

15 minutes later guess who calls me... TYLER! "h...h...hey... is this d...d...dave? i am really s...s...sorry man i...i...i didn't know the phone had water damage" THIS KID SOUNDED ****ING TERRIFIED i tell him that i want my money back and that if he isnt at the KOP movie theater at 3pm the following day i would take the steps his sister told him i was threatening.

I just got back from meeting him, money back in my pocket. The look on this kids face was SOOOO FUNNY. he wouldn't look me in the eyes and apologized over and over.

*~*~*MORAL OF THE STORY*~*~*
1) dont be a scum bag and try and rip people off.
2) if you are going to be a scum bag and rip people off, dont be a retard and leave all your personal info attached to the item your ripping someone off on
3) always THOROUGHLY inspect items your buying used online (i learned this one)
4) if you know this kid... tell him to kill himself.

Glad it worked out. Im always weary of buying used phones. Most of the time if it's a good deal, its stolen. Or you find out whats wrong with it a week later after you've been using it.

That sucks man. I actually had good luck buying a used phone here from Adamkob, but it was the first time I had ever done this, and we never met face to facet the entire exchange.

haha that sucks, but kickass u owned him after...reminds me of this one thread i seen around the internetz where this dude got his laptop stolen, but had installed some kind of keylogger so he could see what was going on from the theive's POV...thread was like 50 pages long and he, along with everyone else following the thread see this kid watching grandma porn and trying to crip walk lmao the dude ended up getting to get his laptop back after he gathered all his own evidence since the police wouldn't do **** otherwise
