driving with a smashed out headlight..

i was wondering if it was legal to drive with a smashed out head light. my car got hit and the light is smashed out and i got into an argument with the insurance lady because i want a rental and told her it was not legal to drive with a smashed out head light. but there is other damage as well. just wondering if i was right. thanks

yea i finally got the rental, but was still out of a car for a week. i just cant see how it can be legal to drive a car with a smashed out headlight, my argument was if it wont pass inspection with it smashed out then how can i be able to drive it.

thanks for confirmation that i was right. i thought i was right because this is actually the 3rd time my car got hit while it was parked, and the one time when i took it to the adjuster he asked if it was drivable over the phone and i said yea but when i got there he said actually it isnt because my taillight was smashed out and i just assumed same rules would apply..
