I'll just cross my fingers that the prices on all other Nikon bodies will drop, significantly.

I see no threat to the D3 with this new body. "ISO to 1600" just won't cut it for me anymore. As the article mentions, this is aimed towards the medium format folks.

If image quality is D3-standards at that resolution this camera is going to be insane.
It doesn't interest me all that much because I would prefer high ISO capability to double the resolution, but it's really cool. The first time Nikon has really taken on the 1Ds, should be interesting to see how it shoots... sure to be incredible. Was anyone else hoping for a MF-sized sensor in a DSLR a-la Leica, though?

And I really wish it would take down prices of the D3/D700 too, but don't see that happening.

yeah around 5500 I've heard. And prices for the D3 won't drop due to the fact this camera has a different purpose overall.

Not what I heard
http://nikonrumors.com/2008/11/28/ni...ound-5500.aspx

And also Sony said that the sensor in the A900 would be used in that camera and that camera only
No official word on who makes the D3x sensor, but rumor has it might be Kodak

Here's another thought. Rather than this camera, I'd like to see a DX crop camera in the 12-15MP range with the high ISO abilities of the D3. However, due to the fact that once you cram more MP into a particular size sensor, pixel pitch is increased dramatically, thus reducing the amount of light each pixel recieves, which increases noise at higher ISOs. That is probably why the new D3x will only go to ISO1600.

however i also found a site that said £5500. . .which would be close to 8 grand in dollars. another site also said it will be using the sony a900 sensor.

It's officially listed at a whopping $8000. It's pretty sweet, but I don't think I'll be getting this like I wanted, for a few reasons.

1 - I like the D3's high ISO capabilities
2 - I like the D3's framerate
3 - I don't feel like buying more CF cards due to the estimated 135MB RAW file sizes that they're claiming.

The RAW's are only 9-17mb's

If you shoot 14-bit RAW and convert that to a 16-bit TIFF, then you get the 135mb files

My Leaf Aptus 22 RAW files are only 40mb so there is no way the RAW's are 135mb

Really? my D200 produces 14-16mb raw files, so I would never have questioned it, but having a medium format with a 40mb file puts it in perspective.

Sounds right to me
When I shoot uncompressed 14-bit NEF's on the D3 they rarely go over 16mb's in size but if I export that NEF from LR to CS4 as a 16bit TIFF it jumps to something like 75mb's

File size is really dependent on what the subject matter is. When I shoot eagles against a blank sky, file sizes are in the 11-14MB size. However, when I shoot at my dog shows, with lots of stuff in the frame, it is not uncommon to get a 20MB RAW file. Mind you, this is in 12 bit.
