Anyone here interested in abandoned railroads and railroads in general?

Hey guys,

Just looking to see if I can get people to join me on this rather long hike on a stretch of an abandoned railroad and take pictures and such.

When you say hike, do you actually mean walking or driving up there with our cars and take pictures?

Here's the general idea, the line I'm talking about is the extension of the Fox Chase line that has been abandoned since around 80s. Lorimer park is making a trail out of part of the line, however the damn thing runs from Rhawn street all the way to the newtown bypass. What we'd do it park a number of cars at the end of the segment that we'll travel and than drive back and hike the segment therefore we'll eliminate the need for walkign back. I'd like to start this in Lorimer park and end around bybery rd. Originally I wanted to start at the very beginning of the line, but it's crappy and flooded in one portion up until Lorimer park. The things that we'll encounter are signals, bridges, and whatever else that comes around.

Do you have an address for the starting point? I'm pretty sure I know where it ends in Newtown.

Just wanted to google map it to see the area.

It's about 4.5 miles from there to Byberry. Now if there are no issues on the way we could also proceed further down past the turnpike.

does this line run through trevose? does it run into george school, or near the ford dealership in newtown? aerial map marked with ms paint would be great. thats a far ****ing hike if u want to go from byberry to newtown. if u get a map out and a scale, its about 20 minutes a mile.

edit, i found what one your talking about, its crazy how far these lines go, i rode my quad on this line by the turnpike in trevose, and walked across the trustle in newtown, i also rode the service roads by penndel. if you plan on walking this whole thing you should def be prepared for this, id park a car at a halfway point just in case

Being prepared is all about it. The point of the first attempt is not to walk the whole thing. Just the 4 mile stretch of it to get a feel on how I do and how other people do, just as a feeler that will hopefuklly expand into something bigger.

I'm down. Sounds very cool. I used to be into urban exploration in my earlier teens, but I'm not much of a photographer. Still interested though.

ill go and bring a huge back pack just for excercise, a train yard with freights would be funner than abandon lines

Yes, a train yard would be funner, but we can do that next time. There's hundreds of miles of abandoned track around this area, all worth exploring.

edit: Sounds like time for an Upcoming Event thread?
