Project 2g - All This To Replace A blown Turbo...

I had some people asking me to make a build thread for the car so im giving in and making one.

I got out of Dsm's a few years ago when i said i was done with cars and modding them and then literally within two weeks of selling all my dsm's i went and got an evo. I then over the next 2 years sold all my extra parts or gave them away... I was happy and content with not owning any dsm's and only owning an evo. But then i ran into my friend Ryan who finally had his 99 GSX on the road and i fell in love again and then i went for a ride in my Friend's Rob 1g and needed to get another dsm's so i began to look.

Out of nowhere my one friend emails me asking if i can source a turbo for a guy he works with who needs one for his 2g so he could trade it in. Long story short i ended up buying the guys car off him for a stupid low price.

The car had a few issues but nothing major. Needed a new turbo, fenders, bumper, tires and a few misc items that needed to be fix. Everything could be sourced and fixed for under $500...

So i went with my friend Rob picked up the car and he drove it back to his garage (i gave him the choice of driving my evo or the eclipse and he took the eclipse and then regretted it 10 minutes into the trip home lol) The car smoked like a bitch with the blown turbo. (i have yet to this day to drive the eclipse lol)

After we got it home we did a compression check and had 180 across the board and the leak down test came back just about perfect. Then we began to decide what turbo we should go with on the car and started to look for some parts. I found fenders and a bumper on here that Chaz01gt was selling so i went and bought them off of him. So then i decided we were going to paint the car. And i hated red so it was going to go white. We then took off the fenders scraped them, removed the bumper and took off the hood. I also couldnt stand the wheels so i threw a set of Rota Subzero's on.

We began to prep the car and strip it down to paint it. At this point i was just going to do a paint job, freshen up the motor with head studs, gasket and a timing belt and then flip the car to sell. So we pulled the motor as well

During this time i came across a good deal on a bunch of brand new parts cause i was looking for a 6 bolt motor to do a swap cause well why not right?

Along my ways of looking for a motor i ended up picking up the following brand new parts, and then a bunch of misc used parts:
-6 bolt long block with ported and polished head, ferrea valves, bc springs and retainers
-2g head ported and polished, ferrea 1mm oversize valves, ferrea valve springs and retainers, 3g revised lifters, hks 272 exhaust cam
-7 bolt Ross .020 over Pistons
-7 bolt Eagle Rods
-7 bolt Eagle Forged Crank
-7 bolt Nippon Racing Pistons
-7 bolt Arp Head Studs
-Greddy Head Gasket
-Clear Cam Cover
-SMIM
-HKS SQV
-2g Gauge Pod
-Injen Spark Plug Cover

I then used my evo to go pick everything up cause i didnt fell like emptying my silverado of all the crap that was in it.

So after everything was purchased it was decieded to build a 7 bolt motor and sell the stock motor out of the car and to take the 6 bolt i bought and strip it down rebuild it and either use it in another car or sell it.

Back to the car itself, with the interior removed i sprayed the inside of the car black, painted the engine bay black as well. I will also be putting full black interior back into the car. Anyway the car was now in the garage and got sanded down and prepped for painting, along with the garage getting cleaned, plastic everything off and a ventalation system made to vent the fumes

I was going to personally paint the car but then Rob said something to me which reminded me that the other me (long story but found someone living within 10 miles of me with the same name which isnt a common name, and we became friends, and then realized are grandparents knew each other and everything like that but we are in no way related lol) was a professional painter. So i called him up and he agreed to spray the car for me.





So as of today We began to put the car back together. Im working on dying the carpet black, changing the grey interior panels to black, the headliner i will redo with black cloth as well. I'm trying to find a set of black leather seats but if i cant i will either get them redone or i'll buy a set of Evo 9 seats.

I have decided to go with a oem style carbon fiber hood and carbon fiber spoiler. Plans are to have the car put back together minus the engine in about a week or two (been busy building a evo for a friend and my evo just broke over the weekend and if down in VA and i need to go down this week to fix it and drive it home lol)

We still dont know what turbo we are going to run. We are also deleting power steering, ac, abs brakes and doing a wire tuck. Plans are to have the car done by the Sonic Meet next year. It will have all new brakes, suspension, axels, trans, clutch etc...

As far as tuning goes im not sure yet if i will go with dsm link or just use evo scan since it has the flashable ecu in it. I will try to update this once the interior (minus the seats) are back in and the motor is begining to be built.

I'm putting the interior back in the car now. All the panels are now black, carpet should be done in a day or two, headliner is black, and i finally found a set of black leather seats in MD that i got to pick up. Also tinting the windows 5%. I will have new pictures in a week or two.

Everything kinda slow down since my evo broke when i was in VA. Crank pulley snapped the bolts off so i had the car towed to my friends house in va. Then i went down with a new fluidampr, sprocket, apr bolts etc.. to fix it and i rushed the timing and ****ed something up and the car ended up jumping timing so now i need to get it towed back and put new valves in and hopefully nothing else...

Eclipse is still looking to be completed by the Huge Sonic Meet

it was a single stage paint, with i believe we did 5 coats if i remember correctly, but the car was primered before hand to stop the red from coming thru.

Figured it time for a lil update. This past weekend i went and picked up black leather seats for the car so i could complete the interior. So tonight me and Rob (DsmRob) attacked the interior and got everything in but the center console (gotta install dsmlink, gauges, etc..). The interior is 97% black, with a little bit of grey on the dash and the door inserts are still grey since i still wanted to have a little colro to break up all the black. I redid the headliner in black felt, made the carpet black, seatbelts are black, all the panels are black. Also pick up some new speakers for the car. not really going to worry about sound too much with this car but wanted something that sounds good. I will be doing a really good sound system in the talon Im buying to put back to stock.

The talon comes with a 6 month old shep stage 2 trans, 16g ported turbo, greddy fmic, dsmlink etc... that i will be taking off and using on the eclipse. Some peopel may say why dont u just use the talon since its all in it.. well reason in i been building the eclipse and im doing it completely how i want it. So the talon will just have a 14b, turbo back exhaust and be tuned with evo scan and be used as my beater car, but i need to get a new harness and fix it (had a small fire that destroyed the harness)


Hopefully the eclipse will be on the road in about 2 weeks and then the talon in about a month. On a side note my evo is done for a while, motor jumped timing destroyed the head and took out the pistons. So i parted all the aftermarket parts and it sits in a garage all alone for now, ne day i will come back and build her to where i want her.

But yea DsmRob took pictures and should be posting them sometime soon.

thanks guys, i love the interior as well, it came out awesome!

But plans have slightly changed a bit. Orginally i was going to take the parts off the 97 talon tsi i was buying and put them into the eclipse so i could get it on the road. Now instead im just going to pull the shep stage 2 trans (6 months old) and put my stock trans in from the eclipse. Then im taking the harness out of the eclipse and putting it into the talon and get that running as my dd. The eclipse will wait until i find a good 7 bolt block to put my parts in and then i'll build the motor and put it in along with the shep trans and all the other parts. So the eclipse wont be ready for another month or two (depends how long it takes to source a block) Rob talked me into this and said why do put a motor in now to just pull it to put the built one in in a month or so when i can get the talon on the road within days. So he is right now need to rush the built. As far as turbo goes i think im going to go with a hx-40 but time will tell. The talon also comes with 3 sets of wheels with tires. So i took off the rotas on the eclipse and put the 17" black asa wheels on. I will be putting the rotas on the talon.

So anyway also got the front and rear bumpers, taillights and headlight on here are pics (im thinking about tinting the extra set of taillights i have to see how they look):
