Couple questions about going to court for a ticket
1) If you go to court and the officer who wrote you the ticket doesn't show up, what happens? Everyone always says "oooh if the cop doesn't show up the ticket gets dropped," but I find that hard to believe. 2) Damnit I cant remember the other one right now... if I think of it I'll edit this to add it in...

If the officer does not appear in court the charges will be dismissed. If the officer has a situation where he cannot appear he may or may not ask to reschedule the hearing.

Well damn, I was actually in this situation a while back... what do you think of this?
I went to court, when they called my name I went up to the judge and another cop who were there... I was told that this other cop had just talked to the cop who had given me the ticket and he wasn't going to be there but he had advised him on how to proceed, and he was willing to go from a 27 mph over down to a non moving violation with no points. That was pretty damn good, more than I was expecting. I asked if I wasn't willing to plea what would happen and they told me that they would reschedule. So I took it... right move or wrong? Would they have really rescheduled? This was in Morrisville, PA if that matters.

Good call, having a 27 over dropped to a 3111 is about as good as you can hope for. They would have rescheduled it and who knows what would have happened.
