I'm pretty sure the screen is done. I don't think there is any way to fix that.

What you experienced was screen burn-in...and it can often be fixed!

http://www.jscreenfix.com/basic.php - Go here, get the software, and read the directions!

why? the same technology is being used.

My TV also has a monitor connection on it too... so I can just connect the laptop to the tv and expand the display...

no software is needed, you did the right thing, just burn in the rest of the screen.

The software is simply a white javascript program which goes full screen on demand.

it also displays a "static" type screen that is just a **** load of colored pixels that flash around. Supposed to fix dead pixels... I tried it in my TV, but it didn't work in this case.

I did buy the TV off the shelf, as-is... so its possible its permanent.

I'm pretty sure LCD screens don't get burn in.. the pixels may have kicked it, but not burn in. Plasma/CRT/projections get burn in.

And those CD's don't work, once you get burn in, it's burnt in.

for plasma you're right. but you can "burn in" a white screen which essentially isn't visible when all is said and done.

LCD's can be fixed... not all the time... but it is possible. sometimes the liquids get stuck. My monitor at work has an lcd that has some issues... a little rub rub and it goes away. hasn't been back in awhile now.

The one on my TV is shot though... I tried everything and it hasn't budged

for older plasmas you were screwed, the newer ones have "preventative" features. like pixel shifting, and dimming. The philosophy is like what scapegoat said, essentially you aren't fixing it, you are burning in a larger even burn, hopefully burned in deeper then the original burn in. Severe burn in, never will go away, light burn can be fixed. I never heard of it on an LCD either, but anything is possible.
