Images are underexposed on most shots by 2/3rd stops. When shooting lighter colored vehicles, you'll have to intentionally overexpose the image so that the exposure comes out correctly.

hum...yea, i see what you are saying. I have my monitor calibrated so they look lighter, but when i looked on my dads computer they looked too dark. I guess I have to play to the majority of people looking at the pictures (un-calibrated monitors)

I'm using ColorVision Spyder2 Express and your images are dark on my screen.

if you take out the variable of various monitor settings and look at the image levels, it's clear that the image is underexposed. I'd suggest you recalibrate your monitor or use better calibration software.

that looks a lot better, but to be honest its gonna be hard to get it to look really good because of the harsh shadows on the front of the car

better but shooting at 2-3 pm is going to create harsh shadows if the car isn't positioned properly and you're using natural light, as seen with the lower front bumper (shadows)

yea, i guess im always nervous that im blowing photos out...i need to look at the histogram more when i edit, lesson learned.

we tried our best to deal with the shadows with a remote fired flash. it looked 10xs worse without it. any other suggestions?

shoot with the sun behind you. looks like the sun was in front of you so shadows were present on the front of the car. also, shooting later in the day would help.

Shoot closer towards sun rise or sun set; the lighting is much softer when the sun is slightly above the horizon. If you can't shoot at those hours, a partly cloudy day works decent since the clouds act as a softbox. Using multiple strobes is your best option for flexibility, not having to rely on the time of day since you're able to overpower the sun with 3-4 good speedlites or 2 strobes that are capable of about 250-300 ws.
