how much is it worth?

1998 subaru outback wagon with 150k miles

sat for a year .. its 5spd .. clutch will need to be replaced.. has power windows/locks/etc

and small things such as plugs wires etc may be needed to get it running .. also some brake lines look a little rusted.. so do u think its worth atleast 1500.. KBB says 3200 if its in running condition

brake lines dont really rust unless its on the surface and not harmful.
i wouldnt buy the car in 'not running' condition unless you're 100% on what you're getting into with it... it could get expensive. i'd plan on at least $600 for clutch + labor alone, then you really dont know how much more time and money it will take beyond that to get it running well.
its just a big tossup when buying a car thats not running... you wont know until its too late if the clutch was the problem, or maybe its the whole trans, for example.

"that idea isn't worth a velvet painting of a whale and a donkey getting it on"

seriously I agree 100% with troll on this one. you never know what your running into with a nonrunning car. they may think it just needs a clutch but could be trand and engine even. there are a lot of people out there that think they know what they are doing when they have no idea. if its non running. no more then $500. always plan for worse case even if its not.

hah.... I speak from experience. DO NOT buy a non running car unless you plan to spend a lot of money, or can work on it on the side (meaning, if u have a dd, then cool). Yeah I did it... And yeah I spent money...

If youre buying, offer $1000 cash.

If youre selling, get it running and inspected first, otherwise people will be offering you $1000 cash.

Ive bought a couple cars not running and made a good profit off of some of them. I got a 93 525i for $1200, put $300 into it, and sold it for $3800. Buying a non-running car CAN come out in your favor... but its important to know as much about the car as possible before you get yourself in over your head.

Yeah that's true. Guess I'm just bitter about my truck and my car sometimes haha. It can work out good. Just make sure you are in control and don't let any question or concern go unnoticed.

no im not buying or selling... my friend has a subaru outback wagon that the clutch was going on and the tires were almost bald, so he parked in and planned to get a clutch and tires and then do them, but he never did so the car sat for a year and now he wants it out of his driveway, so they are either A)gunna sell it if they can get a decent amount 1500-2000 or B) keep and fix it if it cost less than 2k in parts (i will be doing the labor)
