Lighting on motorcycle's

A buddy of mine just picked up a motorcycle from an auction. It came with carriage lighting that lights up the swing arm and motor at night. I was wondering what the laws are on lighting on motorcylces because i have been told that it was legal before since it made motorcycles more visable at night, but i have never got it from a reputable source. If you could let me know so i could tell my friend that would be great.

I can't find any law in NJ for extra lights on a motorcycle so I think its a loop hole right now
