2005 Chrysler Crossfire or ....

My parents are looking at an extra car and they are looking at 2005 Chrysler Crossfire. What else is comparable to this car? I think my moms pretty set on it, but I am wondering what else is in its class? Its going to be a weekend car and I think a major selling point is that is a convertible. My dads not happy that it is Automatic though.

My first thought was 350z but for the price of the used crossfire (18,500 $20k) the only Zs i can find are hardtop. Now im thinking maybe lean them towards an S2000.

Whats TST think about this?

I answered your PM, but if they're looking for a small 2-seat convertible I really like the Saturn Sky in that price range. If they want performance to go along with it, then the Saturn Sky Redline is what I'd suggest (near pre-revup 350Z performance). The MSRP for a brand new Redline is only 29.8K, so I'd expect one a year and a half old to be in the lower 20's. There's also the Pontiac Solstice (and GXP version), which is basically the same car with a different design for 2K less MSRP.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with the S2000 either.

if they're looking at a used crossfire, get the srt-6. Very fun car to drive, and they are pretty damn cheap any more

Stockburger Chrysler in Newtown, PA has a red 2007 Crossfire convertible with 5,208 miles listed for $21,995.

Nothing like 47% depreciation in 1 year after only 5K miles!

They also have a black manual 2007 convertible with 14,100 miles for $17,995.

Actually, you can probably find new '06 or '07's for under 30K. In late 05, early 06, they were selling new '04 and '05 coupes for ~24K (11K under MSRP) if you knew where to look.

If you want to get an idea on pricing, join http://www.crossfireforum.org/forum/ and post up. I've been out of touch for the last year or so...

I had to detail these at work and they are the most cramped car I've ever been in. Horrible execution of a car. A Sky would be a much better choice.

Already contacted you about it but thought I would throw my thoughts in here. The crossfire is a cheap comfortable car with a nice engine, but its way too soft for my liking, at least in a "sports" car. The clutch falls to the floor, the shifter is too smooth, the steering wheel is too big and easy to turn, it just feels like a nice cruiser car, not really any sports feel to it unless you are going in a straight line. Its basically an SLK (i think) mercedes with a cheap quality interior and big wheels, the headunit is lifted straight from a carrera, but with a 20k pricetag. Its a nice car to cruise around in but not a fun car to drive IMO.

The s2000 is a driver's car IMO, and the Z is a nice mix between the two.

don't push what you want on your parents

If they're both happy with the crossfire let them get it... just stear them towards the srt-6

women seem to be more impressed with the crossfire than men do. I wouldn't be surprised if your dad doesn't like it. I also wouldn't be surprised if your mom doesn't like the S2K either.

I'm much bigger than you, and I never ever felt cramped in it. It's a small 2-seat car, you can't expect THAT much room. In fact, the trunk had a ton of room as well.

Yes it's based on the R170 (1997-2003) SLK320, yes it has "numb" steering (recirculating ball), yes it has large wheels (18x7.5 front and 19x9 rear), no the interior does not look cheap, no it's not boring to drive. It's a high 14-sec car that corners pretty well and has a unique look, but was priced too high and marketed horribly.

I bed to differ, but thats a matter of opinion. It just has a weird feel...to drive it hard doesnt feel like an s2000 or a 350z or a z4 in any regard because once you go to shift hard the matte finished shift knob always slips out of your hand, your foot always drops to the floor cause of the clutch being so light, and the steering wheel is too big and too loose for me to enjoy any kind of cornering action. I really didnt enjoy pushing the car, after a while I just drove it with the top down without having any fun at all, the only thing i still liked was the exhaust note.
