aem short ram intake

well two days ago i bought a short ram intake, and i am reading in other threads that short ram intake sometimes bring to much heat to the engine which leads to proplems. i own a honda si 2009, and im new this stuff. i just dont want to damage my engine. so what are the pros and cons of a short ram intake?

I think what you are referring to is heat soak...basically the intake will draw in some warm air from the engine bay. You won't see any real issues, but you MAY lose hp over the stock setup. You will still gain increased intake noise that you would expect with an aftermarket setup. If you are going for performance, you may want to look into a CAI setup.

its not 'bad' for your engine. but notice how all the pictures of short ram intakes, the air filter is right next to the engine that is burning 180-210 degree coolant? that heat source is heating up the air that your intake is sucking into your already hot motor. It wont hurt your car at all. It will make the distinguished "suction" noise along with the slight whistle when you shut your car off. If noise and shiny metal is what your looking for, this will be perfect. If you want to actually ad a few hp to your car, definitely look into a cold air intake.

i have the 09 si too, as long as you keep the stock air tube, which most installs tell you to remove, the cold air which used to lead to your stock air box will now lead to your new airfilter, wont be as efficient as a cai set up because it will still pick up the lingering heat in the engine bay, but the stock air tube will even help cooling off your engine bay, look into hood dampers (looks kinda goofy, imo BUT), they are supposed to create a cowl effect and cool down the engine bay, with the dampers and stock air tube, your sri should work just fine

I wouldn't worry about taking in water using a short ram. You'll be fine washing the car, driving through rain, etc. (don't purposely plow through deep water though!)

However if you had a CAI, you would need to be more cautious going through puddles and driving in the rain.
