I just need to vent

My BOV now vents to the atmosphere. For you non dsm-ers, you prob. think nothing of it. lol, but i dont seem to have any problems with venting, as most other dsm people do.

On the other hand, i do have one problem, HOPEFULLY someone can help me with.

When i boost WOT, its ok, everything is cool. But when i boost from 0-5 or 6 psi and steadily hold it there, my car will boost, then shut down kinda, but still boost, it feels as if the boost just goes away, possibly a leak in the bov? im not sure, but it feels like a boost cut (if there is such a thing).
EXAMPLE:
Im in first, around 2000 rpms, rolling, no clutch engaged. i go, say almost 1/2 throttle, so i hit around 5 psi, the car will boost ok, until about 3500-3800 rpm's, where it bogs down, but the turbo will still spool as if nothing happened, i dont hear the bov. It feels as if the rpm's are dropping, but they arnt, and it feels as if the turbo isnt producing boost, but i still hear it, and my gauge still reads the same psi. So all in all, it feels likes im letting off the gas, when in reality, im not.

(ps, this happens in every gear, i just used 1st as a example).

Can one of you DSM junkies help me?

Does the car studder or anything? I dotn knwo much so i wont try to give you advice i will let someone who knows what there talkign abotu help you. (2point4dsm)

But my friend ran open bov for a long time and didnt have any problems then all of a sudden one day his car would studden when boost would kick in and he would put a new set of plugs and the car would be fine for a few more hundred miles. I finnally convinved him to switch to a differant intake so he could recirculate and at first the car ran bad and he was pissed and all my other friends where mad but then everntually it ran better and he neevr had any problems again.
Also what kinda bov you running?

running a vented bov without a MAF-T will make you car run pig rich between shifts not a good idea to vent it put the hose back on the noise isnt worth the trouble you will get

My WRX did a similar thing when I had the MBC on there. It would stutter at partial throttle. What was happening was the BOV was in that sweet spot where the vacuum was enough to open the wastegate and bleed off some boost.
See what the PSI's are doing when it happens.

TalonTSI97 and G1GSX make good points.

The fact is every DSM that is running a MAF in the stock location will have problems venting a BOV to atmosphere. The reason is the ecu is constantly keeping track of how much air is flowing past the MAF. But when the BOV vents to atmosphere there is a certain amount of air that just disappears without telling the ecu. So the car runs rich for a brief amount of time which can cause all sorts of different problems. And not every car will react the exact same way.

In this case it sounds like the o2 sensor is getting clogged. All the extra fuel btw shifts doesn't get burnt completely. Instead it gets shot out the exhaust as soot which covers the o2 sensor. Normally, the o2 sensor can burn off this soot. But when the soot is overwhelming it needs a little bit more time to clear it. In the meantime, the sensor is not working properly and making the car run even more rich and possibly fouling the plugs as well. And this is what is causing the loss of power at mid throttle.

At WOT, the motor and exhaust is hot enough to burn the soot quick. And the ecu doesn't rely on the o2 sensor and therefore the car acts a little bit more normal.

A properly crushed 1g BOV does not leak unless the motor goes to full vacuum. Even a stock one holds boost pretty well. And one that is crushed too much only causes compressor surge. And compressor surge does not take power away from the motor. Grand Nationals didn't even come with BOVs.

You can't return the crushed bov that you bought and tell the guy that it's bad? I would let you use my H-34 to see if that is your problem but I am scared you wouldn't come back

It has nothing to do with your BOV and all to do with the fact that your venting to atmosphere.

John: I you this one the phone...I also told you where to get hose from so you can recirculate. You cannot vent to the atmosphere safely without a hacked MAS/MAF-T or EMS. Always check the easy stuff first before you go off on a tangent and buy/borrow more (I learned that lesson the hard way).

it actually sounds like the BOV is leaking when its doing this. So i wanted to check and see if it was the problem. and sandra, il give you something as colateral so u know i give it back . But yea, i have other problems to deal with right now, with my car. So its parked for a few days until it can go to the shop. Something with the steering is making crazy noises.
