Mossberg vs Benelli

I am going to buy a shotgun for home defense. Anyways, I am stuck between a Mossberg or Benelli. The Benelli just feels AWESOME.......the action sounds great. But is there a difference in terms of quality?

I have a Mossberg 12 gauge pistol grip that I use among other handguns. Feels good, looks good, works great, and also sounds amazing. Seems to me like a well built gun. I have never used a benelli but I'm more then happy with the mossberg.

I have a Mosberg 500a 12 gauge and i love it. It kicks like a mule tho. When we shoot clay birds...if i go through anymore than 2 or 3 boxes of shells my shoulder usually ends up bruised and in pain for a day or so, but overall its a great gun.

Both are good guns. Pick one that you are comfortable with. I have a couple Mossberg's for hunting and love their durability and reliability. Any gun that is well maintained will last forever in the house. Its when a gun is taken out of the house in the elements, is when you start affecting the protective coatings and internals. Get one you are comfortable with keep it oiled and cleaned (ie, keep fingerprints off the bluing and other metal parts. With that all said, are you prepared to kill someone? If you are not, please don't buy a gun, put 911 on speed dial.

........

Calling 911 when someone is breaking in, and has the chance to do harm to your family... is pointless. It would take 1-2 minutes for a burglar to harm yourself or someone in your family. It would take at least 5-10 minutes for some cop to show up. I know I can do the math, can you? When I own my own house, I will definitely have a weapon of choice underneath my bed.

Lets not get too off topic here but if you can't pull the trigger the burglar will. At this point, you have an overpriced stick in your hands. Back to recommendations on some kick ass guns. You looking for a pistol grip or full stock?

Agreed, training is essential with any gun. I'll take a Desert Eagle above all for home security :P

No amount of training will prepare you for the first time you have to pull the trigger to save your life at close range. Ask any military person how their first time was. This is why I said 911 since this is a better choice for 90% of America. A good security system does well also. Have fun with that deagle and don't shoot your neighbors since you think a f'n hand held sniper rifle is a good choice.

haha, I was being sarcastic. Deagle is indeed a nasty gun.. I haven't shot one yet, but I want to.

The eagle isn't the best for a self/home defense situation for the simplest of reasons.....they aren't exactly the most reliable! The main idea to a home defense/self defense gun is that it's going to go bang no matter what, that's all it has to do. It's still a kickass gun, and eventually I'll get one! As to being a "hand held sniper rifle", WTF is that supposed to mean? The absolute maximum range (even with the long 6" barrel) for it to do damage is something like 150 yards. A 357 mag. would be considered about the same "hand held sniper". So please explain that one!

Oh, back on topic...

Both are great guns! I went with Benelli simply because I got a killer deal on it ($160 at Tanners, brand new in the box but still not actually "brand new...previous buyer", on consignment), otherwise, I might have gone Mossberg (lots of "aftermarket" support). In terms of quality, both are excellent depending on which models you are interested in. On certain comparative models, the benelli is probably better overall quality (in all categories, actual synthetic used, reliability, and durability) . IMO, and that is purely opinion, I thought that the Nova that I bought was way more balanced over the 835 (comparative Mossberg). It just felt better.

What's your budget, and which models were you looking at?

mossberg if its for home defense only, chances are you will never shoot it

get a benelli if you are gonna shoot it more than 6 times a year, and yes benelli is better than mossberg, depending on the model

if any of your friends have 1 go to the range and see how you like the Kick it gives. For self defense i went .40 cal since it has more stopping power than the 9 but won't go thru 2 many walls like a .45 or shoot as much fire. if you have children i would recommend a .40 since s shot gun and pellets flying all over the place and injuring a loved 1 isn't the best. i would say go to a range shoot a whole array of guns which feels best then buy it keep it tucked away pray at night and hope you don't have to take a life and hope no 1 is dumb enough to want it to get taken.

I shot a .44 mag D.Eagle couple of years ago...its an experience.
But for what its worth....its a big handgun, heavy recoil, and powerful.
It's not practical.
