the automerge never really worked as well as i wanted it to, i just adjust other things to get a fake hdr shot

yea, since its so weak, additional adjustments are required.
but the shot above has no adjusments, minus the border and the inner glow. the actual picture of the car was not touched.

it probably would look better with some curve & shadow/highlight adj.

yea, i may saturate the orange a bit because you can see pink appearing in the highlights. i'll erase the excess.

The reason why the automerge is "weak" is because Adobe didn't create it to produce the overdone HDR shots you see all over TST
Most photographers aren't looking for that washed out look, but are looking to get a little more dynamic range out of their photos while still having it look realistic, which is why PS's automerge is pretty subtle The HDR shots like the ones found all over TST are getting way too overdone and are becoming very unoriginal I feel like it takes so much away from the original shot taken |
