Wachovia Spectrum no more?

What's everyones thoughts about the idea of the demolition of the Spectrum and the building of hotel+condos+markets etc etc being built there?

I think it's a step forward.. even though I have fond memories of the Spectrum. I mean, I grew up there.. I did the shoot outs between periods at Flyers games multiple times... going to numerous Flyers games, concerts, etc. But I'd be okay seeing it go. Hell, I'd buy a condo down at the whole complex!

On the other hand, the whole Philly complex loses its old feel of vintage broad street area sporting. It's going to bring in so many more and different people, because it's only like 5 minutes from the Airport. It's going to be a complete makeover of the downtown area of the complex.

Discuss.

more work for me, i dont really mind, i wouldnt say its the choice of places for condos though, i guess they ran out of places in CC.
i was wondering when they were gonna knock down that place, it really looks run down, last time i was in there had to be over 8 years ago, and even then it was pretty crappy. i just cant see condos in that area, i wouldnt want a luxury condo in a industrial area. i thought they were cutting back on building condos, they built alot lately, atleast 10 buildings but it could be even 20

If you go down Pattison ave for about a mile, toward 76 entrance, there is a nice gated community with beautiful houses and lawns etc. So it is possible, they are pushing the industrial area further toward the walt whitman bridge.

Ditto Chaz, The vet was heartbreaking to see go, Crazy to think you park over it when you go to a Phillies game now.

As for the spectrum, I suppose the Phantoms,Wings will play in the Whacovia Center now??

Within this new facility will probably be a smaller in seat rink/entertainment area that they will use in the future.. they would use the wachovia center until then I guess.

I thin it will be sad to see it go, but it will do wonders for the city of Philadelphia.

i just cant see them putting condos there.. you'd have to be a complete moron to want to live in the heart of the sports complex area. you would really have to work your schedule around events or risk taking an hour to get in and out of the area

They realize that, this is supposed to be a state of the art addition to the complex. There is even plans for a massive underground parking facility, so the parking and traffic situation is projected to get better. They're trying to upscale the area and make it more attractive to tourists also. But that's what I mean by it ending an era of Philadelphia sports face.. I think it kind of sells out our history and passion of sports to the rest of the country. We'll see what happens, it will definitely be interested. A place to shop, eat, sleep, drink (alcohol) hours or days before concerts or games, 2 minutes from the venues? It's a great idea that has the potential of opening up 5000+ more jobs.
