how the heck do you get the nut that holds the compressor wheel on, off? on a turbo

ive been tring for like 20 min.. is there some special trick? how do you hold the shaft from spinning?

you need to find a socket that will fit on the opposite side of the shaft to hold it in place.

thats pretty sensitive stuff you're working with there... do you have someone to rebalance the assembly when you're done? be careful, i always though that turbo rebuilds were best left to the pros...

If you take the center section out from the housing, you should be able to hold the turbine wheel with a towl and take the nut off. The turbine wheel is tuff unlike the compressor wheel.

Remove the CHRA, scribe a line across the nut on the comp. wheel and end of the turbine shaft. Then hold the turbine wheel with with a box end wrench or 12 pnt. socket. Then remove the comp. wheel. Put it all back together with the scribe lined up.

FYI, those nuts are often reverse threaded. I fought with one for 15 minutes before I realized that and then had it off in 30 seconds.
