What to do to get aMotorcylcle License

So i was thinking about a new car.. and then realized my cars fine for now, ill just hold off. But now i really want a motorcycle, more of a sport bike but something older to learn on.

What do you have to go through to get a motorcycle license? isnt there a class of somesort?

You can get a permit, and i'm pretty sure insurance is considerably cheaper with a just a permit. But for the license i think theyre may be a mandatory safety class of sorts, but i'm not sure. You can also get the permit at the DMV and ask while your there, you only need a check for $15 and ID. I did it about 3 years ago, then crashed a tad bit. good luck

PA is one of the only states to have a completly FREE motorcycle safety class. PAMSP i believe is what its called. check out the DMVs website. they provide hands on education & have bikes to teach you on. if you pass the class (which almost everyone does as long as they learn the ropes & dont quit) you get a license. the lourse is a month IIRC & consists of 2 nights a week, and 2 days on the weekend. check it out.

Not sure about PA, but NJ was simple. I had my license w/in about 10 days. Took the written at dmv, then walked in on a 3 day course; completed it and went right to dmv to validate the license. Had my bike a few days later :D

I just went and got my permit on Wed. so I could go and take the safety course. It's free and they supply the bikes. Like was mentioned if you complete it you get your license.

yeah, if you live in PA, go for the free course. I took it, classroom stuff is really boring, but the hands on stuff is fun. A word of advice though, when you go to sign up for a class, make sure you start calling about 5 minutes before they open the class enrollment because the class slots usually fill up in about 15 minutes after they open the registration.

Wow thanks for the advice on that. I have heard that it is a pain getting into the class. Did you go into the class with previous excperience on a motorcycle?
