Question about installing a stereo

I've installed a lot of headunits in my time, but never one without a built-in amplifier. The headunit is an Eclipse 55430 headunit, and doesn't have a built-in amp, so I'm curious if I still need a wiring harness adapter or not. Normally, headunits with a built-in amp have a wire harness for power, ground, remote, fl, fr, rl, rr, etc.

I'm assuming I'll need an external 4-channel amp to power my speakers, correct? If I still have to use a wire-harness adapter to mate to my GM wiring harness, am I only hooking up the power and ground? The unit has 4 sets of pre-outs, so it'll obviously be connecting to an amp, but I just want to double-check everything and make sure that all I'm hooking up is the power, ground and remote (to turn on the amp)

thanks all,

Chris

I would still go with the harness if you have your stock harness there.Cause besides power and ground youll have illum. and you might have a power antenna.SO all those are in the harness ready to be snapped in.

yes, you will still need a harness for power, ground, illumination, antenna, and amp turn on. you will need a 4 channel amp to power your speakers, which gets connected to the radio through RCA cables.

Thanks for the input, just another question. Once the harness is secure, and the amp is mounted, and the rcas are connected between headunit and amp, do I have to wire each speaker separately to the amp via the wiring harness adapter?

Yes but the sound would be way better with a straight shot from the amp to the speakers.
