XT or XTi? What Lens kit? any advice really?

I just fell into A LOT of money, and i really want to get a SLR with some of it, then invest the rest. Im looking at the Canon Rebel XT or XTi, and the best place in terms of service and prices has been www.bhphotovideo.com that i have seen so far.

Im thinkin the best option for a beginner would be the XT, but i dont know which kit to get, im stuck between three.

These two are the Rebel XT's
Rebel XT with Canon 17-85mm EF-S IS USM Lens
Rebel XT with the stock lens (Canon 18-55mm EF-S Lens)
or the regular XTi kit
Rebel XTi with regular lens

I know everyone says the lens is more important than the body, but i was thinkin would it be better for me as a beginner to get the cheaper XTi with the regular lens, or would it be a justified hundred dollars to get the XT with the upgraded lens?

I know its a lot, im just hyped to get into the SLR world

hopefully i dont hear all that NOOB ****, just lookin for some advice

All I can say is do ALOT of research before you buy. Don't make an impulse purchase. Checkout Nikon and Canon, read reviews make an informed decision. Out of your examples above I would go with the 3rd. Mainly for the crop factor the higher mp count gives you. Or see if you can get the xti body only with some upgraded glass having 17-85 mm is going to limit you in the type of photos you'll be able to do. My walk around lens is a 18-200vr but that's on a nikon d80. In the long run it will save you money to pay once for a more expensive/better suited piece of equipment "body, lens" than buying then selling to upgrade. Take a class at your local community college or camera store. It's a great hobby to have and goes along with most other interests you may have.

Edit-->http://www.dpreview.com/ <-- great comparison/reviews site

I have looked at dpreview.com a lot the last couple weeks, and have played around with an XT that my friend has, so im pretty set on that or the XTi...

Im thinkin about getting the XTi body, with a 28-200mm lens, im gonna do some more research on lenses, but this one seems about the price and specs that i would like. Does anyone think thats a good lens?

Im in the same boat as you. Another reason for me is that I already have a Rebel but its the film version so my lenses and stuff should move over right?

i caved in and ordered an XT with a 28-135mm IS USM, and then im gonna get the 50mm 1.8f as soon as possible

i figure i can use the XT until its not enough for me, but since thats probably a ways down the road i should be just fine

PS: idk about your lenses, so someone answer that lol

Yes the EF series lens on an analog camera will work on a digital camera.

I have the rebel xt and I love it. I got the body and the lens set package around x-mas of 2005. I'm sure you will enjoy yours.
