STI has more power, and according to every magazine I've read the EVO handles better.

Driven them both, it comes down to prefrence. My suggestion would be to do a search and see the other threads that have come up with the same topic you have now. Try these for some answers

My ideal car would be the exterior of an Evo, the engine and drivetrain of an STi, and the interior of the STi limited, and sound proofing like a benz.

under 40k of course.

i totally agree, i did just that before i bought mine. At first the STi was faster in a straight line, and the evo LOVED on/off ramps (STi understeered a little too much for me)
-So Sti quciker straight line
-Evo out handles
-evo got a nice FMIC, whereas the Sti topmount is recieving alot of heat from the engine.
-boxer engine might be a little to expensive/too in convienent to work on
-if you want to rally, STi. If you want more of a street car, evo. Even though i have gone off the beaten path, id rather stick to pavement, but thats just me.
- (on a biased note) the evo is more FUN!!

Your best bet is look at seeing where you want to go with each car. Stock for Stock, the subie might be a little bit of a better stock car (interior and such)
But if your going for performance/mods (this is what i did): pick a goal hp number and research how much money, including installation for parts that you cannot do yourself, it will take for you to reach that HP goal in both cars.

Hope this helps!

(dont forget what Dimitri said (sig)) vvv

i agree to some extent... the sti is a much nicer road car... if you want sheer power get the evo... if you want a daily driver... get the sti.

Evo owns STi if your going to tune it, equal money into the evo and the STi and the evo outperforms it, evos are better in producing more power from simple bolt ons

I watched some top gear vids it seems like the evo is quicker and handles a lot better, I like the looks of both cars, I probaly like the evo better. I'd get the base model so I wouldn't get the bilsteins or the 6mt, but would I get the carbon fiber wing? I was never a fan of mitsubishi, but I recently got into the evo. I'm more of a subaru fan but this is a tough one, I got awhile to save up and think about this anyway

Yes, the majority of them come with the carbon wing.

It’s probably the toughest decision you’ll make. Drive both… either way, you’ll be getting something that will keep a silly smile on your face.

I’ve recently considered trading or selling my car for something else, an E46 M3, a pre-owned Carrera, however, there really isn’t anything out here that can match the performance of the Evo for the money. It’s absolutely the best value in that aspect and difficult to pass up (at least until the Evo X arrives. )

Once you’ve driven one, it’s tough to drive anything else.

I agree with all of this.

The Evo ruined other cars for me.

They are both good car, but just be wary of signs of abuse on either. There are a ton of kids who's mommy & daddy bought them one of these.

Yea..but I was shocked. I mean these are cars that are predicated on handling (IMHO).

Im sure it can be easily corrected.

Handling does not equal understeer or oversteer. Handling is about knowing what the car is doing and being able to get the car to do what you want it to.

Don't forget warranty issues. A lot of Subaru dealerships are very cool with bolt ons. They seem to only care when you tamper with cat-deleting and messing with o2 sensors and o2 sensor wiring.

Mitsubishi on the other hand will F you in the A if you have mods. They also send people out to autox's and popular dragstrips to get down your tag info and void your warranty for racing.

Warranty area: Subaru>Mitsu
