Heat Soak, a big factor or not

if your n/a how big of a factor will heat soak be with a short ram intake. yes the engine bay can get to crazy tempertures and the short ram intake would be taking in the hot air. So how big of a performance lost would heat soak be. If your turbo u have a fmic to keep the engine temp down, but without one you are just sucking up the hot air. So do you think heat soak is a major factor.

There are gains that can be achieved by minimizing heat soak. Most of these things are fairly cheap but the gains are usually not too drastic but worth it IMO, every little bit adds up.

Well is this for a race car or a Daily driver...more likely for most people heat soak isn't going to make a huge difference but yes colder air makes more power...even a turbo has an intake and the cooler air entering the turbo keeps the air temps down too, maybe not as much as a factor as a NA car but with my setup I tried to make my turbo intake suck air from out side of the engine bay

Buy whichever is cheaper. Neither are going to make a huge difference between the two. So, get whatever you like the most, or whatever you can afford.

cold air intakes are mostly for looks, and the sound. If your worried about performance and cold air, the factory setup usually works the best, as it draws air directly from the fender in most cars, so drop a k&N filter in, and ur good to go.If somebody can show me a quarter mile or eith mile timeslip where an aftermarket cold air intake gave them significant gains over a stock setup with a performance air filter, i mite retract my earlier statement.

2 guys on another forum Im on did a test in their cars with a laptop hooked up to monitor the Intake air Temp and it was only a 2* at best difference between the short Ram and Cold Air... That was while driving of course.

But in my car it's 50* difference between pulling air at the airbox or puting the "snorkle" on and sucking air from behind a headlight.

It all depends on the car.

in the case of crzyguy, he can afford both intakes so the money isn't the problem, he's aiming for better performance as well as sound on his DD, if he goes with the sri, can't he just add a heat sheild?
