Everyone at my school (elizabethtown college) just got a letter from the tech department saying how the RIAA is cracking down. This semester the school has recieved 14 complaint letters from the RIAA, compared to an average of 4 or 5 anually in the past. Basically the school just warned us that it can be subpoenaed to release the name of students with illegal copywritten music. A friend of mine who goes to the University of Delaware actually got her internet access taken away and a fine from the school for having some illegal music in her iTunes...they singled her out to make an example even though every student on campus has music he/she didnt pay for on their computer.

Screw Limewire. I use bittorrent now. Instead of puny single songs, I'm downloading entire albums. I even downloaded Limewire Pro for free. lol

I already downloaded Diddy's new album a week before it comes out (Diddy's recording studio flooded the Limewire network with fake songs from his album). How's the album you ask: it's more of a lounge music than rap music - it's pretty good.

Here's the deal. Lime Wire is getting sued. ( We all knew this would come )

The RIAA has no re-course.
" It should be noted that no other P2P developer has been sued for common law copyright infringement"

Be prepared to see a hit put out like 2pac on LimeWire's CEO's. That's how the record companies do if they don't get their way.

In a world of "an eye for an eye" no one wins.

It can. Eventually the RIAA may start going after the users of Limewire in an attempt to scare users away.

That's what I thought as well. I really don't understand the "eye for an eye" statement. I don't see our legal system as being an eye for an eye system.

damn that article is old.

The RIAA already sued and won this case. Just as Kazaa went down and Napster. They have been monitoring the user database for some time now. So it hasn't been safe for almost a year.

For you BT guys who think it's safe, it's the most unsafe P2P service going right now. The RIAA has been monitoring it since the fall of suprnova.org. Verizon actually logs anyone using BT and if you don't know, the owner of BT sold out and is working with the RIAA and MPAA. He already sold part of the rights to the MPAA. Which is why there are so many decentralized, invite only torrent groups now.

If you are on a college network (i.e. dorms), don't even bother. You'll get nailed. Colleges don't want it on their network because they get sued and it destroys the bandwidth. My college had 14 kids since the start of the semester get letters and have their internet access turned off.

Private monthly fee newsgroups, private torrent groups, and offshore IRC groups are all that is left.

they will never stop this, there are so many out there and as they get larger and recognized and then shut down everyone just moves onto the smaller less noticed one until the process repeats itself
