Fake M5 Northbound on the GSP...

99% of the population does not know the difference (or care) between an M car, and its non-M counterpart. The other 1% knows that your car is fake, so what exactly are you trying to accomplish other than clowning yourself? Perhaps if your car had more M parts (other than the badge and lip spoiler) it would be a more convincing fake. Additionally, you cannot get M5's in the rather pedestrian hue of blue that your car is painted...

Yea but to the untrained eye he just added $25k more worth of value for $5, and made it twice as desirable to steal.

I dunno, most people have no clue what an M5 is, and this car was bone stock, so those that know what the M5 is would surely see it for what it is. It was fun clowning him though

M3 > Fake M5

The colour gave it away, before I was close enough to notice the details. If you are going to try to pass your car off as something it isn't, at least put some effort into it. I recall seeing an E46 SEDAN with an E36 M3 badge on it. Car appeared completely stock too, and was painted a colour that the E46 M3 was not avalible in...

There was no work done, it was bone stock. Just had M5 badge, and optional factory lip spoiler. Sure looked pretty in my rear view mirror...

I know of a fake black M5 where I used to work....wont say where. This guy did his homework somewhat.....quad tip exhaust.....M5 rims...M Aero package...pretty sure it was just a 540i with the M body kit....dead give away was when I looked into the car and saw an automatic trans. + the exhaust tips were way too small and looked cheap. M5 badge was also in the wrong place....what made me so mad was that co-workers were so sure it was an M5...."dude it says M5 on the back!".... makes me furious thinking about it.

I get the same way... I have ran into quite a few fake E36 M3's, and laid waste to them with extreme prejustice...

There are e39 540s with the Full M bodykit (factory), which look amazing. No M5 wheels, though.

All the e39 540's came with an M kit after the e39 m5 was discontinued. Bmw had all the left over M5 body panels and decided to make them stock on the remaining 540's. They are identical to m5's but there is a bar going across the front bumper, they dont have dual exhaust and they dont have the m5 mesh wheels.

BMW also did this on the '99 E36 cars with sport package. Those cars received the M3 front airdam, sideskirts, rub strips with "///M" badge, and rear bumper. They retained the non-M mirrors though, much like on the e39 540's...

Yeah but even better, 18" M-parallels... teh hot ****. Also, the 540 M-sport has the M5 front facia plus a slat in the mouth of the bumper... the slat is an add-on piece, remove it, and you've got an m5 bumper.

Son you could just spend $5k or so and get your fenders modified so that they fit. Or get the $200 cast replicas ;)
