Why I do my own car repairs/work.

Man after watching this video, I never want to take my car in for service. The only time I take my car in, is to have emissions/inspection done. No wonder why my car has 226K orignal and runs better then most new cars today... this is really sad. Guess I should tell my friends not to go there now.

That was pretty effed up.

Flat out blatant ripping people off. I'm surprised the con men didn't at least run the hose from the T-Tech machine to the car to make it look like they were doing something.

I only take my car out for oil changes and then it's only at my friends gas station he's the best. My radio was broken when I went in and I went back to pick it up my friend asks me the mechanic saw it broken and asked if it was his fault. I said no but thats very honest of them to report. Anything above a fluid change I do myself

It's rare to find places like that anymore.

It's sad that these days, most businesses no longer value having a reputation of "the best", it's a lot of greedy scammers out there trying to make a quick buck, then move on to the next scam.

Since I have learned to work on my car (it has been 3 years now), I do not take my car in for service. Many places, like dealerships, try to get you to do some sortof BS maintenance. When I brought my car in about 4 years ago to have a window regulator replaced under warranty the dealership tryed to sell me some $300 service that amounted to them changing my oil and some of my fluids!

My parents bring their cars to the dealership for service. My mom has had several problems with the car dripping oil after an oil change, and just overall sloppy work. I have found oil spray in the oddest places on her car after service.

Then my brother took his car for service at a local shop that was good to me when I got my new tires. After he got his car back his hood would not close properly, so i am thinking that they did something to his hood.

It's just not worth it to let some of these grease monkeys touch my car. I guess it also does not help that some of the "major" mechanics schools around here are known to be crappy.

This stuff happens sooooo much it is sickning. I do not let any of my female friends take there car to be serviced. They have all been screwed hard, hmmm.

Last time i went to jiffy lube, i got home and notice some medicine that i had pickud up for my mother-n-law was missing. OMG, i cld not believe they took my medicine. I went to them because i knew the workers pretty well, but they were transfered. Needless to say im not going back and they are lucky i did not have proof and have to much to loose if i beat the shlt out of someone. Before that, about 5 years ago, my wife took my bmw to have an oil change close to the univ of Penn, a firestone place i believe. we went out that night, got to Reeds in Center Square and notice the car tapping. NO OIL! the filter was not put on correctly and oil was leaking like a race horse pissing on a flatrock! Fvckers!!!

I saved $300-$400 by having a friend of mine give me a hand with installing my adjustable shocks.

My friends car, the transmission wouldn't shift into 3rd gear (max speed of like freaking 40mph). We took it to crappy Cottman transmission and also AAMCO. They told my friend that his transmission was completely shot (only had 130K on it). I didn't believe them. I knew the car top to bottom, so I worked my magic. After re-adjusting the TV cable, and playing around with the shifter switch, he has now been driving the car for 5 months on a so called "blown" transmission. Its pretty sad a professional place couldn't figure out a simple problem like that. We didn't even need to change the transmission fluid/filter (did it anyway). When I took my car in for one of those free "transmission checks" they said my transmission was going to give out anyway. I was able to drive the car almost another 8 months before I decided just to get another transmission. Now that I can remember, I did take my car in to get it repaired. My fuel pump gave out, and my parents didn’t want messing around with that much gas (had to drop the fuel tank) so I took the car in to have the fuel pump fixed. It took them a week to get too my car, and when they did, they said the car started fine (the fuel pump was sitting for a freaking week so it cooled down). I said I wanted them to fix it, but they said take it until it dies. I get to the place, and I try to start it.. guess what no fuel pump… So wasted my time for nothing. After getting the car back. I realized too late they didn’t put the rubber boot over the fuel pump (to cut down on the buzzing). So now all you hear is buzzing if you don’t have the radio on.

Its a funny video, but its kind of sad because this probly does happen to alot of people, I try to do things my self but if i cant i got to someone I know i can trust. But thanks for the video because it makes poeple more aware. Most places like these suck now anyways, and its also good to ask if you can see the work (if u can). ya know.

this kind of stuff is going to start popping up alot, there are more and more investigations about service centers today than ever before, mainly because of "fluid flushes" and other "pm" that many car owners have no clue about, or just don't care about. i see it everyday, i know personally, if we do a flush, of filter it gets done (which could take an hour or two longer than the originally expected time). but some places like jiffy lube who promise quick service, will "forget" to do the flush (after charging you) in order to get you on your way. i say if its in your owners manual, do it, if not, then don't. there may be no benefit to a flush if the manufacturer doesn't suggest it. in fact it may do more harm to your car, than good. the problem is that nobody (except for a select few) reads there owners manual. if more people did, than they would at least be armed with some simple knowledge of their own car, rather than being blind to the subject.

on a side note, there are too many people (men and women alike) who don't even know the make, model, year, or tirm level of the car that they drive every day. it boggles my mind
