Possible Engine Problem

Has anybody ever driven their car WOT when before the engine reaches operating tempature? You get that sound of a million bees hitting a coffee can (best way I can describe it).

Well, that whats happening to me just about every day now.

For instance:
I let my car warm up every morning for at least 10 min. When I leave, the needle shows it is at proper operating tempature. But if I take the RPM's above 4,000 in the first 30 seconds or so of driving, it makes that sound.

Or another example: I've been out driving for a while- say 20+ min and I pull into a gas station for a few min and leave the car running, when I come out and drive off, it will make that noise if I go above 4000 RPM's or so- even though the car is completly warmed up. But again, it only makes it for the first 30 seconds or so, then I can drive it as hard as I want and it is fine.

Any ideas? I want to take this in to Subaru to have it looked at" but I am worried SOA will cry "abuse" and try to screw me.

I assume this to my engine from racing, right?

Wow, I have no idea what that sound could be. I'll do some research though.

Have you ever driven you car cold? When you step on it, do you remember that noise it makes?

I am getting that noise, but not just when it is cold.

Hmm...

This isn't good. I should probably take it into Subaru so they can look at it.

I should probably un-marry my AP then, huh?

Does it do it at full boost? I know when my car made that noise, it was a leak in the up pipe, may be a different problem though.

Well, it dosent do it all the time and I don't think it is just on full boost.

Even if the car was warmed up, but has been sitting for a little while (even while running), it will still make that noise around 3800-4000 RPM's for like the first 30 seconds of driving, then it sounds normal.

Don't worry about the AP, I do believe it is undetectable.

Maybe I effed up something inside the block from all that hard driving over the last two years...

But if I did something like that, wouldn't I hear the noise everytime I go WOT (which isn't often)? Because it only does it for like 30 seconds or so then it sounds normal.

Check the heat shields on the exhaust. If one is loose or broken it will rattle really badly at certain rpm. It sounds like exactly what you are describing.

If you did something to the block it would be constant.

I have replaced my stock exhaust, so there are no heat shields.
