Need help with EVO X clutch

Well a buddy a mine is loosing his clutch and needs a replacement. He has a factory unit now with 30k miles...He has a few upgrades but nothing crazy

Is there a decently priced clutch or should he grab another factory unit being he still has a warranty

Spec stage 3+....Reasonable pricing, stock pedal feel, capable of up to 600wtq, Smooth engagement and quite. Had mine in for 10k now and it still feels amazing after quite a few runs down the track. Stock clutches in these cars are garbage :/

Is he plan on putting more power down later on? If so put that into consideration. I would stay away from OEM. Fujito recommended me to http://www.jscspeed.com/ to look at some clutches. Hope that helps.

The SPEC Stage 3+ is a popular clutch that a lot of 400HP+ Evo and Subaru owners are running. We have had no complaints!

A milder alternative would be the Competition Clutch Stage 3 full face ceramic kit.

As always, shoot us a PM for discount TST pricing!

If he is not planning on more power then his best bet is a stocker. People underestimate the stock clutch on evos. Mine went countless launches 38,000 miles and one trackday at pocono before it started slipping on krazyhousecustoms dyno.

I had a Spec Stage 3 clutch in my old 410WHP Ws6 and the clutch started slipping after 4k miles, had to have everything taken apart, measurements taken of clutch thickness, then put a new one in under warranty. I would stay away.

There are alot of threads over on LS1tech with alot of hate for Spec clutches.

Spec clutches are hit or miss based on what car they are in. I have no Evo experiance with them but have other friends use them in some domestic stuff with high praise.

I'd grab a clutchmasters FX series clutch, or a Exedy twin. (depends on what price you looking to spend & whats actually out there for evoX)

I just had an ACT HDSS installed w/ the streetlite flywheel. It is a good clutch so far but the engagement from a standstill is harsh and not something I'd reccomend for dd. I'll admit that I don't know much about the x clutch options but they can't be much different from 7/8/9 evos.

Our experiences with Spec are also very hit or miss. We much prefer to use products from Clutch Masters or Competition Clutch on the modified cars we wee here through the shop.

Loved the feel of my spec and was great on my 2.0l wrx swap. Once I went to the 2.5 swap with a slightly larger turbo it didn't wanna hold anymore. It was rated for 530 tq or something like that and I only had 330-350 wtq. The clutch couldn't take it and let me down. Went with act instead.

I have the Spec 3+ on my X. I went to the drag strip today, but couldn't run because while practicing my launches beforehand it just slipped every time. I have about 16,000 miles on it, 5,000 of that with 500+ WHP 430 ft/lbs.

Thumbs down for Spec and their customer service. My last clutch disc came labeled backwards which led to an incorrect install. In the past week I was talking to another guy who was having issues with his Spec clutch similar to the symptoms I had with mine. Turns out his was also labeled backwards.

Spec asked for pics of my parts to see the damage that occurred to the disc and PP. Spec offered no sort of replacement, not even an apology. I only have about 12k miles on the clutch and now the TOB is starting to make noise. I'm going with ACT the next time around.

And yes it appears the clutch disc can be installed either way on the LGT.

Oh yeah and lets not forget about their flywheel. Came with loctite for the tob to sit in the flywheel......anyone else see a problem with that?

ACT-ME1-HDSS here with streelight on my X
I also opted to install the magnus cmc evo9 conversion kit so the CMC wouldn't crap out when I went aftermarket.

Drives like stock, no chatter, using ACT throwout bearing as well. High RPM shifts aren't an issue.
Not sure why people are getting harsh engagements though.
I noticed my biting point was "raised" after the install which may be the culprit of said harsh disengagements, but I lowered it to 3 threads on the rod and everything is butter.

Also realize it is an HD pressure plate and give it a fraction more of a second to slip over what you are used to on the stocker.
