and ya if i stopped some kids in a car and one had a knife.. its gone..

I have a question about this statement because I almost always carry a swiss army knife on me. Would you take a knife off a 40 year-old man automatically? Would you take a knife off of a 20 year-old man automatically? What legal reasoning would there be to take a knife off of a kid, but not an adult? Is there a certain age when I'm no longer considered a threat for carrying this kind of tool? I'm just wondering because the way I understood that statement it seems like there is a double standard. If I misunderstood you at all, let me know.

If i stopped you for investigation while you were in a car load of people who were following someone,, or up to no good or fighting yes i would take it off you I dont care how old you are Im not getting that thing stuck in my stmoach.. you can try to make complaints it aint going anywhere.. been there and done that

Thanks, I was wondering if it was something thats based on the officer's discretion on the situation or an automatic kind of thing. I just misunderstood the way it was worded.

Let me follow up to that. Say you pull me over, just me, for 'failure to obey a traffic control device', would you question me if I had any weapons on my person? If you did, and I stated I had my pocket knife, would you request I give it to you? If so, upon safely completion of the ticket process, would you then return my knife?

Same scenario, however, upon your approaching my vehicle, I have all my paper work on the dashborad, with both hands on the wheel. When you reach the vehicle, I alert you that I am legally carrying a concealed firearm, and that my permit to do so is on top of my paperwork, accompanying my drivers license. What then would the procedure be?

well i'll chime in if thats alright... with the firearm, if you are legally carrying it, and you tell me right away, i will look at your permit, and make sure everything is valid, i will also be on a higher alert since i know there is a gun in the car. I ususally ask everyone i stop if they have any weapons in the car. Sometimes you get people who say yes, and its for my safety, if you were in my shoes, im sure you would want to know if there was a weapon in the car you are walking up to. If you stated that you had a pocket knife in ur pocket, i would ask you what pocket it is in. depending on the situation and gut feeling, would depend on how i handle the situation. i would ask where the knife is located, then i might ask you to remove it, i might ask you to get out of the car and i would remove it from ur pocket, i might let u keep it in ur pocket. If it i was just a little swiss army knife type of thing then i would give it back to u at the end of the car stop.

I don't currently carry, however I may in the future (assuming i stop working in the USSNJ). I got a few friends who are officers, but its always good to have an oppinion outside my circle of friends.
