se-r spec v, b15

ive found a SE-R spec v that needs a headgasket, ive been looking for a daily and doing a headgasket is not a big deal to me (been a mechanic since Jr year in high school) so would this car make a good daily driver and project car? what would you expect to pay for a spec-v with a bad headgasket? anything to watch out for?

Worst car I ever owned.

Though, fun car when it worked and didn't shut down randomly while I was driving.

like he said 3000 to 3500 i would make sure it has an after market header if its in the 70k plus mileage due to precat failure... dont want you to fix the head gasket issue and find out the motors blown.. i loved mine ran good torque and with a turbo kit you can be in the 275whp range

04, mileage not listed, asking price 1500, says it blows white smoke while running and looses coolant fast so thats why he said it need a headgasket. should i ask to see if he has a header?

EDIT: texted owner, car is at 140k on stock header

Lol give me the info at 1500 I will have my friend snatch it if you don't. It's definitely worth the money, and just like subbies, if you use the right hg and redo it right you will have no future issues.

Do it. Get the engine out, go over it thoroughly. Check to make sure you didn't lose any butterfly valves, then locktite them down, check your pre-cat is still intact, then put an aftermarket header on, and get an AJUSA HG and ARP Head studs and call it a day!!

Same as the other guy said $1500 ! My old coworker bought a 2003 spec v with a bad head gasket for 1500 and dropped a used motor in it for $1k . Also if you get a motor for this make sure its out of a Sentra not a altima ! He also found out that when swapping it in as the bellhousing on a spec v is different then a altima not sure why but it would not bolt up to the Sentra 6spd . Also the throttle body drive by wire are common problems on theses . You might have to do a relearn on the new motor so the ecu recognizes the throttle body. One more thing the 2002's had issues with the up stream cat breaking off getting sucked into the exhaust port and damaging the motor so a newer style cat/manifold is your best bet or get a cheap header. Good luck

Ps if you have deep pockets go maxima 3.5 swap lol. Tire melting Torque steer like no tomorrow

Altima engines drop right in, not sure what your friend was doing wrong. In fact, most people prefer getting newer Altima QR25 blocks for their Specs because it is a better block with oil squirters.

This is interesting ^ the motor was out of a 06 altima and he said the bellhousing bolts didn't line up at all . Could it be diff on a auto to manual trans ? I said the same thing other people say all the 2.5's should have the same block design and bolt pattern again I havny seen this in person but he also said he contacted LKQ who he purchased if from and they explain that too him also so in scratching my head on that one

Ok I just talk to him and he said it was out a altima with cvt trans and would not bolt up to the spec v trans . Again not sure why so of someone could shed some light on this so you don't run into the same prob.

It's possible you do have to swap bell housings since the Spec-V transmission is much different, but other then that, everything else should be the same. Coming from a car with CVT shouldn't make a difference since all that crap is usually controlled by the computer and engine harness.

Try to find an 08 Altima block, then use a B16 Spec-V HG (or get an AJUSA one) B16 rods since they are forged and whatever pistons you want. The 08+ Altima blocks have oil squirters in them for better performance and reliability.

Yes just make sure you swap bell housings. If a B15 Spec-V trans bolts up to a damn VQ35, then it's safe to say it will bolt up to almost any QR.
