9sec Awd Pick-Up Truck

Yes a 9 sec pick up truck.

Alot of people dont even know what a GMC Syclone is, so let me give u a little education bc everytime someone see's the truck they think it is a lowered S-10 with a body kit or thats the truck like the typhoon with the grand national motor in it. The Syclone was built by a subdivison of GM called PAS INC (built the 1989 Turbo TransAm also). They only made 2998 Syclone in 1991 before the program was cancelled (there are 2 1992 syclones they are white) bc of alot of very unhapppy corvette owners. The Syclone was introduced to the public in the rain and was running 13.1 in the rain at the Detroit Press release. The Syclone was faster then the 1991 ZR-1 Corvette so alot of vette owners complained to GM saying how can u have a pickup truck faster then your flagship automobile. So they cancelled the Syclone program and focused on the Typhoon which was 500lbs heavier and 5tenths slower.

So enough about history let me tell you little about the truck. The Syclone is a factory turbocharger awd pickup truck. It has a 4.3 V6 not he 3.8 GN motor that eveyone assumes it has. It came factory turbocharged with a Mitsu 17c turbo with an air to water intercooler all this is running through a modified corvette 700r4 transmisson. The Borg Warner AWD system is split 65 rwd and 35 fwd. The Syclone was rated at 330hp and 360lb-ft. Some stock truck have put down 300 hp on the dyno's and 350lb-ft so they were def underrated.

Well after contemplating doing an LsX block an going to a v8 I decided to stay v6 and wanted to document my journey to building a 9secV6 ( which will also be my license plate ). Now I know this isn't as easy as just gathering parts and slapping it together. Getting the correct parts and most important getting the correct tuner is the most important part. Living in NJ I have one of the best around in Harry Anderson as he helped tune some of the faster trucks around. So let's start our journey.

Starting with a factory new Bowtie block 4 bolt splayed and will also get a half fill to give it even more bottom end strength. These blocks have already been 7 sec and are like finding a needle in a haystack

Next up is crankshaft specialities crankshaft small strocker crank ( thanks Harry)

To connect to the crankshaft i picked up one of the last set around right now of Oliver rods from Mike Lee

Piston are on order take 6-8 weeks. Custom Diamond Pistons as soon as they come in I'll post pic.

Turbo is an Innovative DBB 88 Thanks again Mike Lee

For Cylinder heads going to running Ponitac 23 degree head with Jesel offset rockers

Upper and lower intake Pontiac/Brodix converted for EFI an Wilson 90mm upper intake

To control it all I got a FAST XFI system

I just picked up from Ed Hess his old front mount intercooler setup that is built as part of the radiator support ( while it was a little twisted from the wall contact we already gotten it straightened an rewelded like new thanks Ed)

More updates coming each day. Again I know this wont be easy by any means but I will be fun. I will be trying to so everything with this truck straight line and some auto x I know big turbo might be laggy but I'll deal.

On to the suspension

Up front went with Rpm coil overs, Edelbrock end links

Out back a set of Qa1 12 way adjustable setup has been just installed with a Belltech 2 drop springs and rear sway bar. Caltrac were also just purchased and are I'm the mail.

Also installed C5 Zo6 calipers with Baer 14 inch rotors. But just yesterday I got a hold of a set of C6 Zo6 6 piston calipers and have been told they will work with my cbr brackets so they will going on.

Wheel and tire combo is CCW Classic wrapped in Bfg KDW rubber 18x11.5 out back with 335/30/18 and 18x9.5 295/35/18

As far as drive train. Have a good relationship with Carl Rossler he can build me a 4l60e that can live and with stand the beating. If not I already have a built turbo 400 for it but want the overdrive. Would spring for the 4l80e but have a baby on the way and can't justify it right now.

I'm assuming a whole vehicle pic would have been helpful. Truck has 28k miles on it. She has NEVER EVER seen rain and I've had her for 11 yrs and it has NEVER been washed. That will have to change this year as the paint is smoother then most 2011 factory paint jobs, the paint is 20 yrs old and has some fine scratches, so she will be going to OAKS Detailing for a full detail.

White meaning a typhoon? There where only 2 white syclones ever built they where classified as 92's. One was crashed and Jay Leno has the other one
