Price guess?

How much do you think a shop would charge to replace the rods, pistons, valves, valve springs, and retainers in a 2007 chevy cobalt? Just in labor.

That's impossible to answer. Every shop is different. Why dont you call some of the forum vendors and ask them for quote?

Round about guess:
Rods: 500 bucks
Pistons: 500 bucks
Valves: 500 bucks
Springs: 500 bucks
Retainers: 250 bucks

and then labor? Figure another 500-1500 bucks

Or just a new engine? If so get a junkyard one

Well let's start with the obvious question....

Is the shop pulling the engine?

Relax, bud. When the dude with a drag Honda and a boosted daily that has had fast Honda's for years AND fabs his own parts tells the new kids on the block that they're doing it wrong, it's time to step back and learn something.

Most in car rebuilds are gonna be around $1500, gotta pull the head and oil pan, need gaskets and fluids.
