1990 Turbo Miata

New to here

New to here and wanted to introduce myself. I'm Joe from Danbury, CT and I drive a 1990 Turbo Miata. At least I drive it when I don't have it taken apart and sitting for months at a time.

I've been working on the car since '04 when I bought it stock off eBay. Since then its been a love/hate relationship and a lot of time and money along the way. I do all the wrenching myself and that's probably 90% of the reason I love the car. Knowing every square inch inside and out keeps me confident that everything is done right.

Unfortunately after the turbo went out on me I broke my hand/wrist shortly thereafter and was unable to get it running in time to beat the snow. It currently sits outside, uncovered and half apart.

I have plans to button everything up once the snow melts and I can get it towed to the shop. As it sits now I'm not 100% certain what my plans are, but my tax return might just help me get a little more done that I need to.

I look forward to checking out the site and seeing whats local around here. Here's some pictures that were taken this past year after the newer turbo setup went in.

EDIT: I can't post pictures until I have 3 posts, so I guess I'll have to wait on that.

Thanks guys

Here's a couple more pictures. If I get some time later this morning maybe I'll start a build thread (if there's a place for those) and post up some progress shots.

Do you guys have a way to embed youtube videos on here? Or am I just not seeing it because I'm newb?

Your Miata looks great, nice work. I had a friend that used to have a turbo'd Miata, and it was a fun car. Keep up the good work, and keep us updated.

The stand is a laptop/camera stand combo. I bought it off eBay - http://cgi.ebay.com/Car-Auto-Vehicle...item336379fee8

This laptop stand is TITS for tuning on the dyno, though I cant say how great it is for datalogging while driving. I've yet to try it out like that. The camera mount is a cool little extra as well. Most of the miata guys use a rollbar mount and that was what I planned on getting, but this works pretty good for now. Its a little wobbly, but I found that stuffing a shirt between the stand and seat helps.

Overall I'm 100% happy with it. The kit comes with 2 or 3 different brackets to choose from, so it should work with any car/truck. You don't know how many strange looks I get from other people checking out the camera mounted in view. I had one guy at the gas station ask me what did I use the camera for, I told him only good stuff. lol

Very fun Even stock the car was fun to drive. Then as time went on I went from 140whp-180whp-250whp. I drove the car at the 180 mark for the longest time period. Leaving the dyno this last time had me ear to ear like a little kid. I was laughing the whole ride back home!

This will be the 4th headlight setup on the damn car and its actually the worst for output. Too much work went into getting them fitted to change again....at least for now. I tried like hell to DIY but the quality and fitment was a joke. This spring I'm going to work on getting more light on the road, either with HIDs or adding some fog lights.

I miss the pop ups the most. The first set of custom projectors I had were TERRIBLE. It was another company that eventually disappeared due to crap craftsmanship. I was younger and was drawn in by the "angel eye" rings they would give with the parking lights on. They didnt last too long on the car. I only have these couple pictures of them handy.

Old projectors and Greddy turbo kit

2nd set of pop-ups with Pivot controller

Current setup the day I was test fitting everything

Those projectors were made by a company called Mid-tenn and I think they were around $400 for the kit.

They needed a lot of work to make them look how you see them though. The mounting rods are all custom made because the ones that came with the kit were flimsy and weak. The covers are just smoked pieces of lexan cut to fit. The kit came with clear covers that looked like ass.

I'll see if I can dig up some of the other pictures I had with that setup. I ended up selling it for what I paid for it a couple years ago. I'm sure they damn near impossible to find now.
