Restoration of CCW Wheels for the Syclone

I bought this wheels off a vette guy that I guess had to much money and didnt really care about them. Must be nice to not care about a set of $2500 wheels but he did pull up with a Bentley GT when I meet him to purchase them. Anyway the wheels are CCW Classics in 18x10.5 in the front and 18x12 in the back. The wheels are 3 piece and 100% aluminum. When I looked at the wheels they were actually rusted on the inside of the rim and where the lugs bolt the wheels to the hubs. The wheels themselves are in great shape no curb marks or road rash just alot of oxidation, rust and baked on brake dust.

My goal to is to polish them to a chrome like luster. If I'm not happy with that the centers will get anodized black and the lips will be polished. The center caps are blank and I will ge either GMC or Syclone engraved onto them to give a little factory appeal. Then they get BFG KDW rubber 335/30/18 for the back and 295/35/18 for the front

Here is what I'm starting with to give you some idea of the before

I went online to the vette, viper, and supra forums to see what these guys where using on there ccw wheels, to restore and maintain there wheels. Many different answers, I did get alot of positives about Diamond truck box polish found at Lowes for a rough polish and the Adams metal polish for the final stage polish.

So I disassembled each wheel and started with 1200 wet sand paper and worked my way to 1500 followed by 2000.

Once done with the sanding I started with a drill and a cloth ball and the diamond polish

Waiting on the Adams Polish to be here tues or wed but here is what they look like rubbed out with the Diamond Polish there a little bit a hazing that the Adams Polish will completely clear up

I have about 8 hrs in this wheel. I'm hoping once they have been done one time it will much less work to maintain them. I've also looked into Zoop Seal which seals aluminum wheels

And these came in fri the BFG kdw 335/30/18

Next to some 315 toyo r888

Once I get each one finished and the tires mounted I'll post pics of each wheel and then once they are installed on the truck

Well this weekend I finished two more wheels

Only one left and the can be mounted and balanced. It's amazing what some places want to charge to mount and balance 335's on big wheels like this. They are crazy.

Got the tires mounted on. Also picked up a slick piece Flush Mount Valve stems. Give the rims a smooth look with out a big valve stem sticking out.

Thanks for the replys guys. It's definitely hard work and I don't think I have any finger prints but well worth it. I was shocked when I went to pick them up but I knew the guy didn't care about them. He actually kicked them while I was looking at them and told me to make him an offer on the wheels bc they were just in his way and to dirty to put on any of his 3 Zo6's. I smiled bc I know I could steal them and make them like new. Hell I sold the used tires on the wheels on the porche forum for $400 bucks. So I really made out well. But hey how's the old saying go "one mans trash is another mans treasure". Well these are definitely a treasure to me now bc theres not another Syclone running around with CCW Classics on it.

Well u ran into my first hurdle today. The 335 rub. Currently on the sy I have 2" belltech lowering leaf spring and qa-1 12 way adjustable shocks in the back so some told me with a 335 you could run into this problem. So I had some aluminum 1/2 think washer from another project laying around an I out them on between the wheel and the hub and problem solved. So Monday I'll be order 1/2 spacer for the backs.

And here they are just mounted up on one side for test fitting

Sorry for the bad lighting it was in the garage with iPhone 4
