New guy with a... Pickup truck?

So what, you may ask yourself, is a guy with a truck doing on this site? Can't really answer that, other than a few of my friends are on here, and I needed to do something to put off studying. And I just like cars in general.

I'm Dan, I'm from Mercer County (within walking distance of EggbertWaxman and NDubz's houses), and my truck is quicker than you'd (probably) expect.

It's a 2000 Silverado 4x4, and a year ago it looked like this and ran in the high 17s:

Then for God knows why, I wanted to try to make it faster. Ditched the 192k mile 4.8L for a 25k mile 6.0L, threw in a small cam, a 3000 rpm stall coverter, longtube headers, and a built trans (and obviously a good tune).

Also lowered it 4" all the way around from where it sat when it was leveled, and sprayed my old steelies black for a temporary setup.

New best time is a 13.282 @ 99.96mph (not bad for such a mild setup in a 5100 lb vehicle with the aerodynamics of a piano), and it looks more or less like this: (the rear will be going down 2" more over winter break).

And yes, you're really looking at a lowered 4wd truck with fender flares and bed liner on the rocker panels. I'm used to the haters in the truck world, so I'd expect nothing less on the car side of things. I'll tell you this though, dirt roads are FUN with this setup.

Here's a ****ton of videos from the track:

None at all thus far, and I've got probably 50+ 4wd launches since the swap, about 25 of which were after lowering it. There are plenty of 4wd guys lower than I am, putting out more power than I am with no issues.

I wasn't talking power I was talking angle, the tie rods are what go from power but lowering these Chevys destroys the front ends.

Yeah the tie rod angle isn't ideal, but it isn't bad at all. It actually had more bumpsteer up high than it does now. The CV axles really aren't at any more of an extreme angle than they were at stock height, they're just angled in the opposite direction, so there's no extra wear being put on them from being low.

I thought I had some pictures of the front suspension somewhere, but I guess not.

You are the ****ing man, want to be friends? Truck looks awesome, cool to see someone doing something different. This was actually my favorite body style chevy truck, (my father had a 99 in this style) till the current body style came out. Those are some great numbers, you would give my wrx a good run if not run it over ha. Again, truck looks sick and Welcome to TST!

Thanks guys. I'm surprised at the lack of hating.

And no nitrous here, ever, just not a fan.

While I'd love a TBSS, I still need the truck every now and then. Can't take a load of scrap, or pick up 2 yds of mulch in a midsize SUV.

It's an LQ4 with untouched 317 heads. The cam is a custom grind, 216/224 .561/.568 114LSA (running PAC 1518 valve springs and hardened push rods as well). With the truck being as heavy as it is, I built it for torque, not top end (as evidenced by low 13s at under 100mph).

I'm still only tuned for 87 octane, I'll be tuning for 93 after ski season is over (no need to waste the money when I don't need the power). I'm also considering a set of milled 243s to bump up the compression, but I need to start saving money.

I have a spare LQ9 in my garage that I am playing with. Not sure what my intent is for it yet. If it goes in my Nissan then I am going to mill my ported 243's and go with a less aggressive cam (from MS3 to 228R). But if I don't put it in there, well then I think I may build forged for boost or spray.

Why not have reused the 853 castings on the LQ4? Nice compression boost and friendly with the proper cam

Impressive numbers on the truck. Def. wouldn't expect it. 17's to low 13's, very nice.
