Considering getting a miata :D

So my friend Mike is leaving and he wants to sell his 93 miata, he bought it off of here earlier this summer. Im considering buying it off him cuz ive wanted one for a while just to have fun with and get involved in som SCCA events and do some legit performance driving instruction. The Sti will remain my DD, and the 20g setup would be put on hold for a few moths or so.

What can u guys tell me about these cars? (Keep the gay jokes to a minimum this is a legit question)

I figure I would do sway bars, springs, intake and maybe a catback to start with (used mostly). Id just wanna get it stiffened up a little for cheap to get started. But i want to keep this car slow, cuz thats whats glorious about miatas, they are like driving in slow motion, so u can really work on ur technique.

input appreciated.

my grandmom drives one...

that aside though they're awesome little cars, the 1.6s are dogs but run like champs after continual and repeated beatings and the stock clutches last near forever. also a little birdie once told me they take forced induction well

also have world class suspension geometry,..just need to take care of the garbage shocks, sway bars, and a few other little things

If you want to track it you should consider getting one already built. I picked up a ssm car for 10k in race trim ready to go. The spec miata class is a lot of fun to race in.

check these cars out

I would drive one but they still look very girly and way to many homosexuals drive them. **** it though, drop in a turbo and then who really cares.

Got to ride in a 500 hp miata 3-4 years ago. That was fun but the car felt like it might fall apart.

Miatas don't look girly with meaty-ass tires, nice wheels, a severe drop, a hardtop, and some oomph to it. I've had mine for 6 months now, and I'm starting to piece together a monstrous turbo kit. 130hp is ass. Seriously I can't stand it anymore. I get beaten by bloated SUVs. No. Not gonna have that anymore.

I'm waiting for oneday to come in and lay down the law.

Why don't you just modify the Sti and stop being such a little girl? You've already said you're not looking for a drag monster in multiple threads. In addition, 20G's and the like (FP GREEN ) is the perfect roadrace/autoX turbo. Stis and EVOs, along with other turbo AWD cars are more than enough for most drivers to handle while learning, myself included, to lay down some decent times and learn to drive, them modify as you need it.

You're allowed a rear sway and a catback if I remember correctly for the stock-ish class. Much better to be that guy that started with one car and built it as he became a better driver, than to be that guy with the track prepped race car and no experience and a huge learning curve in front of him. One step at a time, Nick.

Why do you need to buy a Miata (and mod it at that) to do SCCA events?

Miata's are cool.. my choice between my 1st 2 seater was between my fiero and a miata.. You all know what i chose but the reason being is i dident like the way they ride. There a very small 2 seater where as the fiero is almost the size of my eclipse and has a much greater wheelbase and is much wider than the miata.. But if you get it for a good price by all means go for it.
One thing you will come to find is its a roadster and wasent originaly created to be fast it was made to be a 2 seat cruiser.
