Can Somebody Explain to Me...

Could somebody explain to me whats up with the stretched tires and insane camber trend? From my section of the hobby the thing to do is to fit the fattest tire you can on a rim to get better traction. I cant imagine that some of these stretched tires are safe to drive on and wont pop off the bead on a hard turn. I heard it was to artificially stiffen the sidewall on a cheaper tire and then it jut caught on to look cool? With the camber is it just for looks, those cars cant handle good and dont look safe. So whats up with these trends?

who cares? it's a style, not one that you like obviously. and if you think that these people are going road racing with wheel/tire setups like that then you are just as retarded as you think they are for doing it.

I'm sure there are a few hundred other threads with people spouting the same comments over in the Gallery and Member Journals.

No stance for you... NEXT

One of the reasons that some people do it is to run super wide wheels to get a deep lip. In order to pull that off (on some cars) without any fender modifications is to stretch the tire a bit as well run some negative camber to fit the wheels within the wheel wells. I'm not saying it's a great reason, lol, but that's definitely one of them. Others just like the "stretch/poke" look. lol

Me personally, I'm doing a slight stretch on my tires when I get my new wheels. I did that for fitment reasons. I've already rolled my fenders but a slight stretch will still be necessary for what I'm looking to do. But don't get my wrong, I won't be rocking 205's on a 9.5J. hahahaha

The bottom line is this is solely done for style anymore. Any reasoning regarding "stiffening sidewalls" is long gone with newer tires that are out. With that being said, if people aren't into the styling, then they're not into it. There's nothing to "get". If you love it, cool, rock out with your bad selves. If you hate it, that's cool too.

Does this really require yet another thread? Stretching tires is an OG rally car and grip car trick to make sidewalls stiffer and allow the use of wider wheel/tire combos and still stay in their class. Recently it's caught on as people try some more exterme things, but it's really not a "trend" as it's been around longer than probably longer than like 85 percent of TSTs populace.

Isn't that the point of a question? You don't know, so you ask...
