600hp?

I am building a ej257 right now and looking to make big power and swap it into my gc8. This might sound like a big number but im looking too make right around 600whp on this motor and was wondering if any one on here has made that much in there subies? If you have any questions on the build i can post up my parts list and most of the stuff. Any opinions and questions would be great.

Thanks

Josh

How much money do you have to spend on the ENTIRE car?

Then Ill let you know if you have enough.

P.S. 600 on pump ain't happening.

Um i dont really have a price on this build it just keeps kinda growing the bottom end is already done it is 04 sti block and crank with Je forged pistons and brain crower roads and i know that 600 on pump gas isnt happening im going for that with race gas and meth kit and the turbo size im going with will help out the power a little haha

Stock STi six speed should hold 600 without too much complaining.

Full driveline and GT3582, should get you close with some better gas. If you REALLY want 600whp, S362, or go with the next, larger garrett. I mean, you could do holset but the suby crowd hasn't really caught that bug yet, so... who knows if there is someone who wants to do that project.

have fun with that, your gonna need alot more then je pistons and crower rods. 600 you need to sleeve your block, or say by by to your cylander walls. And im not sure how much the stock crank can hold, and with out dropping BANK on headwork it probably wont happen, unless your on a super high reading dyno.

Well the head is getting all worked over with PnP Supertech valve train and +1 bigger valves with 280 crower cams. and for drive train im probably going too go with a ppg gear set too be safe because after a few launches at the track i have a feeling the 6 speed will hate me over 500whp they kinda start reaching a braking point and i am going too run a gt40r twin scroll as far as turbos go

the biggest question NO ONE asked... is why 600whp? what is your goal in the end?

and NO 600whp ISN'T going to happen on PUMP.. those guys were on pump + meth.

Meth= crutch. run C16 or go home :P

Totally agree with "why 600?" its just a number, and not like 500 whp isnt insanely powerful as well. Numbers are for bragging... whats really important is your overall enjoyment of the car, which has nothing to do with a number.
Totally disagree with calling meth a crutch... thats just misinformation.

500whp is tough to reach, 600whp is much more difficult and expensive. Unless you've owned 500+ whp cars before I'd say to be a little more reasonable and understand that if you're coming from 125 whp right now, that you don't need to aim so high, and something more like 500whp would still be a LOT of power to get out of that motor, and you will probably soil your pants the first time you go full throttle.

well i have driven 600+ svt cobra and its fast and 500 isnt that hard too reach alot of people have 500hp sti's you can do that on just bigger turbo bigger injectors and a fuel pump and some one that can get you a good tune. There isnt many people who have 600hp sti's who drive it around 600hp is the exact number im looking for i would be happy with high 500hp like 580. its nothing i really have too rush to get done im aiming to have it done in july but its whenever it gets done it gets done kinda build. I am just looking too do everything the first time and not want too go back and do it again later.

Sorry, but 500 whp isn't so simple. You'll definitely need a built motor for it to last at 500whp, and you'll also need a more elaborate fuel system which isn't cheap... and you're really going to need a sleeved motor if you want to expect the motor to last at 600 whp.
A 35r will get you to 500 whp but I don't think it'll take you to 600 whp.

The sleeved block from RAW is $6,800.
The complimenting heads are another $5,600.
So you're at $12,400 for the bare longblock right off the bat. This is just the beginning of your expenses... once you have a full turbo kit and proper fuel system its really going to hurt.

If thats what you want to do then more power to you, and I'm sure many of us will try to help with what we can. I just think we try to establish how serious people are and how realistic their budget is before we get too deep into trying to assist since many guys just aren't ready to pull the trigger on something like that.

One other thing to keep in mind is that an STi weighs 400 lbs less than a Cobra, and that will make a noticeable difference in performance.

haha, that too . i just didnt know if i've turned into a snob about how to make big power in the past couple years, lol.
but its all a 'waste' of money isn't it?

my dream subaru is a stock turbo sti with meth injection, awesome suspension setup, and some clean exterior mods. i've thought about 'downgrading' to that, maybe i will some day... thats a damn solid all around car with 300+ whp that hits early.

yea and my car ways even less then at sti by quiet a bit. Also you dont need a sleeved motor too make 600hp i know someone who has done it on a non sleeved motor and it lasted him quiet a while until he for got to tighten down fuel rails and the car ran lean. But before that the car ran perfect. I am saying i want too run 600hp sti at max nothing im going to run around on everyday and 500hp if you put pistons in with out rods you can get 500hp you really dont need to built it that much you can run stock bottom end and run 500hp

Yeah, your car weighs a LOT less than an STi. If you had 400 whp I bet you'd outrun the 600 whp Mustang, especially if he's not on slicks.
But it sounds like we disagree on how to build a motor... I say do it once and do it right, and it sounds like you say that you can cut corners and it'll last for a while and you're happy with that. Don't think I'll be much help with your build then... but good luck with it, hope you're happy with the results and that it lasts for you.

well when you build a high hp motor you run into issues with the bearings gettin pounded out depends on the material of the rods how long they will last...
